So yea soft shadowmaps = DX11 that's it everything else is still shader 4.0 at best because tada DX11 allows the mix and matching of said features due tho how the API's pipeline is configured.

You know what shadowmaps means, right?

Have you played the game? Did you check water?

yes i know what i means i mod and work with game engines daily for shits and giggles it dosent effect the water it effects shadows on water yes the but water itself is a god damn seperate geometry layer that uses a Shader model 4.0 shader mixed with normal maps and reflection maps its not specially DX fucking 11 god damn

shadowmaps and filtering are responsible for shadow map size aka 512x512 1024x1024 up to 4096x4096 in the rare title or 2 *call of jaurez comes to mind* that in no way has any effect of DX11 all DX11 allows in terms of the FILTERING is give a performance boost because DX11 has slightly lower overhead when it comes to shadow effects but guess what shadow effects in DX11 dont use special shader its simple DX11 code is more effcient in terms of rendering shadows. thats all there is to it. I mean if you cant take 1 of DICES programmers words for it in the above post it must mean your magically smarter them them and work for them and know everything they do right?

Would be nice if you actually read what i wrote, go read it again. Lemme write it in caps to help you reding. SHADERS 5 AND WATER EFFECT.

If you fail to see difference in DX10 and DX11 water you need glasses.

EDIT: offtopic, why did you voted you damaged your HD6950 with the mod when you don't have 1, as you stated in many post?

My answer had the same tone he used to me. I'm kinda sick of ppl not reading a post before quoting it and it reminds me why i was keeping myself awsy from forums.

Ahaha, you zoomed where you can't see the floor nor relfections. Gj! Go go youtube it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQzXUbbCL0E

I'm not gonna waste my time with an upset guy for buying 2x6970 insted of 2x6950 and trying to mislead ppl showing how dangerous is the shaders unlock.

yea like i said i was drunk on that one thought the poll was for what method to use to unlock it happens after you drink a 5th and it nabs ya when your not looking (note its bad form to drink and vote what with them beer goggles on shit that aint suppose to happen happens)

and your posting a video about WOW thats not Badcompany 2.... unless BC2 magically became WoW and i was drinking to much to notice the change.

altho just for laughs ill ask everyone in the BC2 clubhouse to try DX10 and DX11 mode see if they can spot the different because according to DICE there is not difference for BC2 in terms of water shader and effects. it was originially SPECULATED that BC2 would use tessellation and Shader 5.0 but it dosent only shadowmap filter is run with DX11 code. now BF3 thats a different story supposedly DX11 ground up altho somehow i doubt that.

Of course i could try a multiplayer map and take some screen shots of the Ocean that would have a better result im sure if it does exist.

alright currently uploading Panama Canal Ocean water shots to compare DX10 vs 11 this time there exact locations maybe a few mm off eitherway loading now

Hmm if we look at the region around the shotguns crosshairs oh look the water looks exactly the same in BC2 now ive honestly derailed this thread long enough and backed up my position all i saw was a video in response that points to WoW in DX11 which has no bearing on water shaders in Bad Company 2

so from what ive gathered is im correct and that the whole water shader is Shader 5 is bollocks but that the actually shadows in DX11 do look a metric shit ton better then DX10 shadows. still that dosent effect water does it unless its shadows that fall onto the water then well still not shader 5.0

my guess for drivers is last week of this month we will probably see a 11.1 driver thats just a 10.12a in disguise a real driver for us probably wont be till early February if i had to wager a educated guess on it

If there are artifacts, it's either a bad driver install or a faulty card. End of story. With 5850's, DX10, DX11 I had no problem. Now I suggest this stupid DX10 vs. DX11 comparison stop as it isn't related to the OP's problem... which is drivers or bad card. In this case particularly, the card couldn't handle the flash from a 6950 to a 6970 and now has memory related artifacts by what the OP describes.

I have a 6870 with 10.12 Drivers I initially was getting horrible driver crashes, but then I uninstalled drivers and i re downloaded WITHOUT the JUST the driver... and i havent had much problems..

also I did just try ur map and game mode and i was running fine =\ I hope this issue gets resolved!! also if it is a new 6950 please register so just in case it is a actual hardware problem.

I thought water was one of the places where you were supposed to see huge differences between DX10 and DX11. I seen none at all based on those screenshots. I guess, though, if DX11 can render the same effect using fewer resources it leaves those resources free to do other things at the same time that the water is being is rendered so DX11 would be better in that respect, just not in a way that you can see.

water is still DX10 only the only DX11 features are outlined in the review i posted above between PCGH and DICE, shadowmaps and filtering are the only DX11 effects in BC2. That said ive had rendering issues with DX11 and BC2 numerous times and with numerous drivers for the 5800 series 10.4a was the only usable driver for me right now 10.12a for the 6900s works well in 50% of the time examples BC2 there are some artifacts on certain maps but thats again driver issue. the ones in Heaven Bench i havent seen myself thats always run flawlessly for me but a beta driver is that a beta so. Just have to wait id suggest the OP wait for 1 driver revision test it out if the problem persists take Screen shots and submit them with the RMA request :toast:

nah its a DX11 + driver issue

otherwise all DX11 apps would do it

and everything works fine and dandy for me except BC2 in DX11 mode. heres the kicker DX11 mode in BC2 only effects SHADOW filtering etc thus its not really using DX11 to any great extent while every real DX11 app that uses tessellation i have 0 issues this includes even Metro 2033 with the Direct COmpute blur filter + tessellation no issues. for me its just BC2 being a pos port lol

He is right i have the same setup as him,I get them with my 6970s in stock clocks.Just that one map in BC2Vietnam too_Only game i have with DX11 10.12a drivers .

just hoping AMD releases a new driver sooner rather then later so the OP can retest and see if the card needs to be RMA'd or not as i just ran 3dmark 11 and i had no artifacts or issues. so its making me wonder a bit.

here is another artifact i have found in 3dmark11 demo mode/performance profile (not benchmark mode - its fine in benchmark mode)
"snow" floating on the screen
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meJvZav_Ux4

from the OP obviously granted its limited to 1 senario / situation but id still say its a driver issue but i did run 3dmark 11 in demo mode and i dont get the snow issue hes referencing thus id say its a small issue but still needs to be corrected im again chalking it up to drivers being beta

Yes, which is why I posted. To keep people on topic and not go off on off topic rants not pertaining the the OP. Let me suggest this again.

from what i can tell hes running single card i didnt notice a plural in the OP so im guessing driver issue he could always try a fresh driver install see if it persists but i dont see a reason 2 if its only showing up in 1 particular demo run in 3dmark and on 1 map in BC2
