How do I get Windows XP sp2 to recognise a mobo change.
I'm trying to up grade the mobo in the kids comp. They have an older HP Pavilion a405n. The origional mobo is an MSI MS-6577. It uses an Intel 845gv chip set, and a 478 cpu socket. (FSB 533/400). The board i would like to instal is from a Dell OptiPlex GX270 mid tower, which uses an Intel 865g chip set, and a 478 cpu cocket. (FSB 800/533/400)
After changing only the mobo, it will alow me to get into bios, and starts to boot normaly, but when it comes to booting windows, it stops and gives a blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner of the screen. I am able to install an os on an empty hdd, and the existing os will still work when changed back to the old mobo. What needs to be done or changed to pull this change off?
