Wanting to buy my little brother a GTX 560 ti, yet he has an c2d e8400, wondering how much bottleneck there would be? he plays @ 1440x900 btw

Asus p5ql-se, 4gb ddr2, a gigabyte superb 550w but I have a spare thermaltake 650w graphics card power supply so no problems there and just your usual couple of hardrives, optical drives etc. He's currently happy with his display, he's only 12

Whats the premium of the 560 ti over an HD6800? ~~Too much horsepower~~ Little overkill but at least you know you will be maxing games and adding AA. Maybe enable some vsync to keep the card a little cooler.

I will upgrade his processor hopefully within the first couple months of 2012, maybe with an 2400 or 2500 so i thought I'd buy it now as they also have an awesome special on a good, solid card

Yeah see, just IMO, I don't really think it's worth the premium ...

~25% overall faster than a 6850 @ $165 than a gtx560ti @ $275, costs ~33% more and a much power consumption (nearly half at maximum). At the res, everything is still very very much playable with 75fps. Just saying save your cash and invest it somewhere else. Maybe a small 30GB ssd or smth.

Bottleneck, no.

Maybe wait for a longer time? Make a major upgrade all at once instead? Wouldn't 7800 cards be available then?

My guess is as much as 20%. Im upgrading my E8400 to a i5 2500K next week with a 6870 so then I will know for sure. But with the E8400 I only get P3650 in 3DMark 11 where people with a 2500 are reporting as much as P4200 with the same card

Ofcourse, the cpu will add a bunch of points, only way to make it fair is to compare the GPU mark

I'll be buying the card for him within this week
