Ok, so no benefit for me with 5820K unless I go a step higher with 6850K and even there, I don't really benefit anything since I don't really need more lanes. 6900K is a bit too expensive. I'll just stick with my current one.

It is as we were told. 6950X is going to be competing with the deca-core Xeons so it's priced like a deca-core Xeon.

I think grabbing a 6950X after few years if you manage to get one cheap will be the best deal imo. Even second hand maybe. These things don't break down anyway unless some crazy overclocker tortured it non stop at high voltages...

This is what happens when competition is not healthy. They used to cost $1000 in the past. Now they are almost twice as much, just because they can do it. Hopefully that will change with AMD's Zen...

Second generation was pretty good, especially the X6 models. This was also the time of only triple cores ever in PC. Maybe it wasn't king of the hill, but people certainly liked the Phenom II's.

Heh, I bought AMD stock right before Phenom came out... I know all too well.

AMD has been showing investors actual performace/results this time though. If they're doubling the performance of their current desktop chip there should be competition again.
