Brothers computer started running incredibly slow

Well, it first started a couple of days ago he asked me to take a look at it and so I did opened it up first made sure everything was plug in (just in case), then got on opened up ad aware and avg free virus scanner, nothing came up everything was clean. Opened google chrome and it WAS INCREDIBLY SLOW, nothing extreme was going on, on the processes side. Cleaned cookies etc. still not any faster

Brothers specs:
Intel Pentium 4 3.2 ghz
ddr 333 (I think) 2.25 gigs
Windows xp pro 32 bit
7600GT BFG
Killer NIC network card (just installed that way better than his old one)

I dont know whats wrong with it and Im defragging his pc right now, any suggestions?

Do like 2-3 passes and you should notice something

check the CPU temps, its probably overheating and throttling.

im guessing you put it in this sub forum because you think it is something to do with networking issues or your brothers computer has been hijacked? if so check your router and try resetting it.

Definitely run a malwarebytes scan.

Is the whole computer slow, or is it just internet related tasks?
