So after getting BF3 I want a better card than my GT 240 512MB GDDR5 I currently use.
GT 240 is nice It runs cool passively , has dxva support and all that but I just want a better card. I'm running 1920x1080 btw.

My budget isn't very high so I'm looking at second handed cards.

    From what I've seen:

    GTX 260 216SP for 45 euros + shipping
    GTX 275 for 65 euros + shipping
    HD 5830 1GB for 75 euros + shipping
    GTX 460 768MB 75 euros + shipping
    HD 5850 for 83 euros + shipping

what would the best pick for me?

The better card out of all those is the GTX275 but you don't have DX11 (not such a big deal).
Overclocked it's getting very close to a GTX285.

GTX275 is around 30% faster than a 5770 so it's not a good advice especially if it's a second hand.

Is it new? As far as I know Sapphire re-released the 5830 and 5850 naming them Extreme.
last year in Spring. The performance is on par with a GTX275 but it has 1GB mem, it's a newer card and has DX11. It is the best choice out of what you found.

Between all those old an newer cards i would take the 5830.

    If the 460 was a 1GB....

I agree, out of those picked, the 5830.

I'd probably take the 5830 at that price, provided that a 768M 460 didn't come up for less.

5830 is the best over all choice

GTX 275 in BF3 isnt going be as fast as any decent mid range DX11 gpu,

due simply to the fact of DX11 optimizations allowing similar settings to run faster vs DX10 code, so keep that in mind

a GTX 275 with FXAA will be around 10 FPS slower then a 5830 so keep that in mind, as well

and while in other games a 275 will hang with a 5830 due to drivers / Direct X support / Power consumption / heat / noise the 5830 is the better choice in most regards.

but only if you can get a good price.... you might want to look into 6850s see if you can find one for cheap

    Hi,

If you want to play BF3, don't even think about the older DX 10 generation cards such as the GTX 275 etc., instead get GTX 460 or HD 5830.

See the performance of these two videocards in this article: http://www.techspot.com/review/458-battlefield-3-performance/page5.html

I would get the HD 5830, because it's a fairly overclockable videocard, after good overclock it can perform as a HD 5850 in some games, while it has more memory than the mentioned GTX 460 768MB; BF3 needs the videomemory.

I've got a 5850 1GB Asus Direct Cu that I could let you have for £70 plus postage. Can't go any lower than that unfortunately. Great card though, only used for a month before I came into some money and got my 6970. Has voltage control software for overclocking, and ran in the low 40's temperature wise at stock.

xe.com says thats 83.6 Euros, plus whatever the shipping is.
    mudkip says thanks.

That's nice mate. I still have 25 pounds in my pocket from when I was in london last december lol.

    Though choice now,

    GTX 260 216SP for 45 + shipping
    GTX 275 for 65+ shipping
    HD 5830 1GB for 75+ shipping
    GTX 460 768MB 75+ shipping
    HD 5850 for 83+ shipping

5850 is your best choice in that list. My 5850 blew away my GTX 285 OCed edition plus it has DX11

I see you updated the list. Then the choice is easy, definitely get the HD 5850, which is still a pretty good videocard for newer games. If I am right it outperforms the HD 6850 in general, and sometimes it even outperforms the higher clocked HD 6870 in some games thanks to it's many streaming units on the card (HD 5850 has 1440, HD 6850 has 960 and HD 6870 has 1120 shader units).

Unfortunately prices in the Netherlands are relatively high compared to other countries and the second hand market just sucks. People always think their card is worth 20% more than they should be.
