At the moment i have a gtx 660 which is getting pretty old, so i decided to upgrade to an Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 for christmas. But i don't really know if my psu can handle it, so i decided to register on this site that my friend suggested and ask for any help.

My psu is called "LC-Power LC600H-12 600Watt". And i know it's 600 watt, and the minimum is 500, but i still want to ask if it's good enough, and if it has everything that's requred to put that sweet new graphics card in there without any problems.

And in the case it doesn't work, do you have any suggestions to what psu i should be looking at next, recomendations you know.

Thanks!

That PSU you mention seems to be a generic one, how much would you able to spend on a new PSU?
You must get something certified dude, 80plus Bronze at less....

Well that's not exactly a great branded PSU however reading over the specs of it you should be fine on a GTX 980 with it as its power usage is pretty low even compared to a GTX 660. I would recommend a new PSU as you could get a Bronze rated 500Watt from EVGA for less than 50 bucks that would have better support in the end for handling the load of your system than that PSU. The budget for a new one is about 100-150 euros at most
At that amount, try this as it would satisfy your needs and give you something great for a long time!

My psu is called "LC-Power LC600H-12 600Watt".
Found that listed at http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page8401.htm My concern with that PSU is how the twin rails are implemented. The GTX 980 only uses about 50 watts more than the GTX 660, but if the manufacturer of the PSU put both PCI-e connectors on the same rail, you could have problems. The problem that I'm having is that there are no reviews out there for your PSU.
Recommend that you upgrade your PSU to a 500-650 watt unit, 750 watts only if you think you might SLI someday - although your motherboard does not support SLI.

The thing is, at my local computer store there is a sale for christmas that has the 980 20% off (they don't have the 970 though).

I've thought of buying this motherboard "A88X-G45", and soon i will be upgrading the processor aswell. I have one more question.

Is it worth upgrading to a x99 platform, for ddr4 ram and such?

I think you have the wrong motherboard because that is an AMD motherboard not an intel so if you plan on upgrading you need another Z77 board or if you plan on getting a different intel processor then go for the Z97 and a new chip.

The X99 is only worth it if your doing more than gaming really.

I don't see much need to upgrade your cpu/motherboard. X99 is not worth it. If you overclock I would recommend a 3770k because you wouldn't need a new motherboard. If you don't overclock the most I would consider is a 4790.

I would kinda prefer the 8 core i7 because of the type of work i do, that's why i asked. I'm doing some quite intensive rendering and other such tasks. And with ddr4 that would be quite alot faster. But on the other end i like to use my pc as a gaming station in my free time. Is there atleast a 6 core i7 processor that i can overclock or something like that? Because x99 is quite pricey and i dont want to throw my money away.

Thanks!

Usually we get people asking about gaming. For "intensive rendering" workloads x99 may have some use, but I don't think it is worth the money.

It is worth noting most here are suggesting you spend less. Most suggest a 970 because the 980 doesn't have much gain and isn't worth the money. Maybe will also suggest against x99 because it isn't worth the money. I honestly think you're 2600 is fine as is till skylake or later. But if you have the money, and want the best hardware, go for it.

If you're rendering then the eight core CPU is a good idea. X99 systems are expensive, but there is a reason ~why~ that's so. Gamers don't really need all of the power and PCI-E lanes that X99 has, but for what you're doing, it will save you time.
So yes, if you can afford to, get an X99 system built and see the advantage it offers for your kind of work.

As for the PSU to go with your new GPU, I really like SeaSonic branded PSU's due to their reliability and the clean, unwavering power they produce. The whole computer will benefit from it.

The problem is that is a very expensive CPU at over $1000 which makes the already expensive platform all the more expensive. My advice to you is that if your really serious about the X99 and need the extra threads to either look at the 5820K or 5930K unless your going all out on budget and really need those extra 2 cores and threads. I render on my 5930K that I overclocked to 4.5ghz on all cores and its pretty darn fast plus it costs half the price of the 5960X. The 5820K is also a good choice that's even cheaper but starts lower clocked and generally overclocks less than its upper counter parts (On top of having less PCIE lanes but that generally does not matter unless you want to use beyond 3 GPU's). I would suggest those before getting the 8 core because of the price difference unless you really want to spend the money and get the extra speed in heavily threaded tasks.

Many professionals that do important rendering work will not do it on an overclocked PC. (this was true when I used to build custom PCs for them years ago) System stability is paramount to them and sometimes an OC'd PC isn't stable.

The six core CPUs are a great option for the OP. He could always change to eight core in the future if he really needs to.
