Can I install from a virtual CD drive?

    just like the header says, i want to install another OS onto my D drive (another HDD) and my CD-RW is down at the moment, so i was wondering what ways i can do it really, if not the way i thought...

    You could try to and install off a flash drive. But yes, you can install off a virtual drive I believe.

    EDIT: I would be using the CD but my dog thought it would be tasty after not even a few days of me having the propper disc! :(

    Here is a guide, but it looks like you will need to use a virtual dvd-rom to get the info off the vista disk.
    Seems pretty easy to follow, but I know DaMulta has experience with this. If you do have any really technical questions I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you shoot him a PM.

    Sounds like you now have no os disc but your after having a os on another hd for eva back up or other use. If thats correct then download a drive cloner software ( google it ) That way you wont need the os disc or cd/dvd drive.

    I do have XP still, so im not totally without :)

    I didn't even get to install the Vista at all before my dog - actually my sisters dog decided it was nice and shiney and looked like a burger!!

    I think i'll dig my memory stick out and go use it like now from now on, I might even get a 1Gb stick for my XP!

    i have xp and i can install vista vlited from my harddrive and install it in another partition
