Good to see that there's humans that still retain some form of intelligence even after joining the government :p

Seriously, why they haven't realized this before is beyond me. It's the same way here in Norway. The police will not bother going after someone that downloads a song or a game every now and then. They want the people behind the bigger hubs/networks. Same as with drugdealers, really, if viewed narrowly. Why bother spending all the resources on catching someone that sells an ounce of hash two times a week, when you can hunt down the tosspot that brings 50 kilo over the border twice a month?

Get the source, not the smalltimers. Sadly, though, RIAA will never understand this fact, since they've got their own heads so far up their own butts to actually see the merit of the idea.

Instead of focusing on every college student and old lady who downloads a song or two off of a P2P network,

what about the morons who download thousands of songs or 100's of GB of illegal software?

exactly! the riaa is tactless and near sighted in their "quest," and i don't condone what they do or how they do it, but i have some advice for them: RIAA, SAVE YOUR FUCKING TIME AND MONEY AND SUE THE COMPANIES THAT PROMOTE AND HELP PIRACY, NOT THE SMALL TIME PIRATES. YOU WILL BE FAR MORE SUCCESSFUL IN YOUR BATTLE AND YOUR RESOURCES WILL MAKE A LARGER IMPACT.

It doesnt mean demonoid is back in action, but it does mean that all of us with demonoid accounts are safe.

Not exactly, I'd assume that the accounts that have had a high bandwidth of downloads will be investigated quite thoroughly as Zek mentioned "Canadian police announced that they are not going to hunt down every Demonoid user. They are also not going to target the average pirate.".

But still, better to keep your guard up and be wary of what you download, they may announce they won't target personal downloading. But if you download a bit too much then I think that you are more likely to be tracked now then before the CRIA made this useless lawsuit against the Demonoid server provider. I'm just so glad now that one countries Police force has made what is in my mind, a move in the right direction.

I love watching TopGear. We have only just seen the end of season 8 here in Australia, I don't want.. No, I can't wait 2-3 years to be able to see the newest episode.

They don't because they know they'll lose almost every time. They'll win more suing small groups or individuals than trying to shut down sites since a new one will just come back to take it's place, not much of a scare tactic when compared to one person being fucked financially for the rest of their lives along with thousands of others.

right, but if you take down one large group or website, not only does it discourage hundreds if not thousands of pirates, but it also slows the pirates down and hurts the pirating network. even if another site pops up, it'll take a long while for it to grow to the size of the one just taken down.

But the fact remains that another will come along. In the overall scheme of things, piracy won't be effected.

I agree with others, instead of pursuing downloaders and torrent sites, the industry needs to concentrate on delivering products that aren't overpriced, and that are worth buying. That's the only thing that will lessen the effects of piracy. Continually putting out high priced garbage is what's killing them.

Sure there will still be people that just don't want to pay anything for it but you'll find there are plenty of people willing to pay an artist for their music, they just don't want to pay 16$ for one album with 8-12 songs that clocks in at 45 minutes.

That's not really what I meant. I meant instead of them suing they need to make change their business plan to make people WANT to buy their product instead of downloading it.

Well hell mate, if you can figure that out, they should just hire you :)

good point, maybe they can take piracy to the nexted step and give the owners of the websites some real time in jail.. Im talking 10+ years, not the puny 3 years or whatever they get now... and 10 years where you have to serve most of it.. not get out in just a few years under good behaviour...

heh, if they can screw over a little citizen for life for downloading songs why do the owners only get so jail time.. not like the home user is some major criminally minded indevidual... usually they just cant afford to go buy all kinds of cd's and are in school elc.. than they get screwed for life and might as well turn to the underworld/crime.

Only after they start putting murderers and rapists away for even longer, rather than a measily two years, with shortened sentence for 'good behavior.'

^^ true true, sometime people kill in self defence though. but hey getting screwed for life financially is worst than going to jail for 3 years or less... atleast if you go to jail for 3 years you can get out and get back on your feet.. now being sued crazy amounts of money for downloading music for personal use is just totally wrong and ruins the life of most times, a good citizen.

Gun crime here in Canada has taken a more serious note in the juridical system, thier not putting up with it as much.. but yeah we shouldnt be so lenient at times with people who kill others and blame it on drugs, lifestyle elc.

Another proud Canadian here!

Thank god we still got some common sense up north!

Just give it some time the RIAA, will eventually fuck someone over for life, that will flip and blow up a building. Not something I want to see but it will happen.

Those that lust for greed will eventually be done in by it.

I pay between $10 and $16 per CD, depending on the raw amount of content, thanks to my Rhapsody account :).

Of course, I have to deal with DRMs. So I usually just burn it all to CD and stop worrying :D.

You also have to deal with the fact that it's a lower quality than an actual CD.

Hehe

down south where big paychecks await :p that happens in all sports, players go to where the monnies are at, just like soccer players. (especially Brazilain soccer players after the Brazilian currency fell, by 50% and remains there today).

Sidney Crosby used to play hockey with a good friend of mine, hes from the same part of town that we live in (this place used to be "fairly" small). Im not much into the game though, I like extreme sports.
