    Hi.

I'm selling my my MSI P45 and want to get a Asus board in return.
I can buy a Asus P5Q Pro for €119 or i can get a Asus Maximus Formula X38 FRG SA for €159.

(I also bought second HD3870 on Ebay for €40 but the guy sold it as broken because he said the card was overheating and got black screens while gaming. Me thinks it's just bad contact with the cooler.
It's the Club3D one and has 2 coolers. The stock one which is pretty decent and a Arctic Cooling Accelero S2)

So i want to use Crossfire if i can get the card working.
    A few points:

How good does the Maximus oc? (can it do 1600 FSB)
    Is it better for Crossfrire?
Is there much difference between the X38 and P45 chipset?
And last is it worth the extra cash?

Please share your thoughts on the one.

    Thanks.:)

maximus = rog = a lot of oc (look for reviews) but the p5q pro is also a very good overclocker

second, yes is better for crossfire as it has true dual 16 lane crossfire whereas the p45 has only 8/8 crossfire.

difference is only that one is newer and oc better and that is the p45.

if i were u i would go for the x38 because of the a lot of accesories it comes with, it bios is designed for oc experts and novice and is very upgradeable.

yes, it worth the extra cash
    technicks says thanks.

But would you go also for the Maximus without the extra's because thats why it's so low priced. Hardware expensive here.:)

yes, i would, it offers better quality, better crossfire performance and more oc capability for quad cores

EDIT: one last thing, if it is open box or it doesnt come with the accesorias, get also a sound card as it doesnt have onboard sound

Ok thanks. I have a Creative Audigy ZS so that would be ok.
And no it's not open boxed. The box and extras just are not there i believe
I will mail them and ask if this is a refurbished or a new one.
Doesn't say anything about warranty. Other boards listed have limited warranty so i believe this has full warranty on it.

Is it correct that the X38 boards handle 4x1Gb ram better then the P45 boards.
On my P35 i never had so much problems then on my current P45 board.

as far as i know, the x38 has a better memory controller than a p35, an x48 has the same memory controller than the x38 with some upgrades and the p45 uses the same memory controller that the x48 so they should use the ram kind of the same, but believe me, go for the x38, u wont regret it

I'm back again and still cant decide.:):slap:

    Now i have 3 boards i can choose of.

1 Asus Maximus Formula. €148 incl shipping
    2 Asus P5E X38 €120 incl shipping
3 Asus Blitz Extreme €148 incl shipping

My first thoughts are going towards the Maximus. But i have read several reviews of the board not being so good. Not as stable as the Maximus Extreme is. And i like to have a stable board.:)
I also read that the P5E is the same board as the Maximus Formula and also can be flashed with Rampage bios. So is this a good option?
Then the Blitz Extreme. I don't do wc so do i pay for that or is it a better board the Formula and the P5E?

So help decide so i can buy a board tonight.:toast:

    Thanks

I am really thinking about the P5E because it has 1 year warranty and the Maximus only 1 month. I can get a Maximus with 1 year warranty but that board is €160.
So i think the P5E is the best choice. If it's the same board as the Maximus only with a smaller heatsink then i don't mind that.

I bought the Asus P5E.:) Hope i get it tomorrow.:rockout:
My question is should i flash it directly with the Formula Rampage bios?
    I would like to. :D
I have read some about it. But never flashed a bios using DOS commands.

Is this the correct way to do it?
One thing i don't get is to burn a bootable DVD. I know how to burn a bootable DVD but
should the Afudos and ROM file be on the DVD or on the HD:confused:

    1. Downloaded Rampage Formula BIOS 0401.ROM and Engineering Sample Afudos flashing utility.

    2. Burned a Bootable DVD

    3. Copied the Afudos and BIOS file to specific folder on my HDD

    4. Booted with the DVD

    5. using DOS commands flashed the BIOS. At first I practiced with normal P5E BIOS to be sure I remembered the correct command. Then flashed the Rampage BIOS.

    AFUDOS /i0401.ROM /pbnc /n

    6. Rebooted to see a nice Rampage Formula POST picture

    Me want.
