Hi all

I have an argos card in which I want to purchase a gaming laptop. In argos the choice is not the best. I dont wanna run games on full setting. Happy with 1366x ... . My wife wants to use it for web browsing. I wanna use it for games like la noire. Tomb raider 2013. Far cry 3. And all the crysis games

Which would u recommend?

Benchmark Scores I don't benchmark.
The one with the dedicated graphics card. It is the only possible chance to play any of those games at max settings.

I will say it because everyone that read this thought it and then left. If you game on PC, you need a desktop. By your wife a cheap little laptop or Amazon Kindle Fire (or something like that). Then use the rest of your budget to overhaul your listed desktop. New board, RAM, CPU, and graphics card.

The Acer V3-771G would be the best choice as it is the only one with any thing close to decent graphics, just remember that a mobile i5 is a hyper-threaded duel core (much like an i3).

I'd never really recommend a laptop for gaming as there are so many issues with them, such as heat and price. You'll often find a better specced desktop PC for half the price of a "gaming" laptop. Even if you do get a laptop that can play games, if it starts to overheat (and most of them do), then the graphics will automatically be throttled to prevent damage. Of course, there are many valid reasons for getting a gaming laptop - such as taking it to LAN parties.

Anyway, having said that, don't expect much out of a sub £2k gaming laptop. The Acer with the dedicated Nvidia GT630M will, for example, run about the same as a Radeon HD 5570. The Alienware with the shared GT650M graphics would probably run the same as a Radeon HD 5750, even if it does have shared graphics rather than dedicated. So, out of those ones given, I'd go with the Alienware.

Here is a nice site to compare laptop graphics:

Don't go for the Samsung, Intel HD Graphics, never consider that

The Alienware one is good, but 14.4 inch and so expensive

I would say the Acer one, 17 inch, decent cpu, dedicated gpu and good price

Go with the Acer one, best overall choice out of those 3
I'm using the 15.6 inch version of it, the V3-571G for around 7-8 months. Very satisfied with it :D

I personally wouldn't consider a GT 630M "decent graphics", especially compared to the Alienware that is the other choice. Sure, if you like playing games on the lowest setting, but that takes a bit of the fun out for me. I know he doesn't want the full settings (and like I already stated, you won't get this with a cheap laptop), but this is really scraping the bottom of the barrel! If you want to run games like Crysis 3, you'll have to drop everything right down and use a low resolution. This will make the images look even worse, as you can't run the games at the larger display's native resolution.

Obviously if the poster is happy with a stuttery, low-res gaming experience then yes - save a little bit now and get the cheaper one. The thing is, games in the future will only be more demanding and in a year's time it may be a case of regretting getting the low-end model. If it was me, I'd make the investment and get the better graphics. Just my opinion!

Here are some reviews of crysis & farcry 3 on the 630M vs 650M, though using different CPUs:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Crysis-3-Benchmarked.89410.0.html
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Far-Cry-3-Benchmarked.86061.0.html

Also, if you're sitting in the car, a larger screened laptop can be a bit cumbersome. A smaller screened one is usually much easier to use in a car. The Alienware is also lighter and so less of a pain to lug around. I really hate lugging huge laptops around! These are all things worth considering.
