Cant Decide What Proc to get

    So i am considering either a Q 9450 or a Q 9550

im getting the QX 6850 for cheap but am going to resell it,

I have a E8200 ES chip right now wich i actually havent even fired up.

I want to move to quad again, but dont think the QX6850 @ 4.0ghz will be the same as the Q9450 @ 4 (assuming i can reach 4ghz)

the Q9550 is crazy expensive but seems to be able to get around 4.3-4.5 from what i have read.

    What are your suggestions?

I was looking at those two cpu's moments ago and I think you should go with the q9450 but if you want the highest overclock but i think a q9550 might have a better chance of getting a higher oc.

i have watercooling, i want to hit 4ghz but it appears that certain q9450's will hit it.

I also thought of going this rout

    Q9450 ($279 @ microcenter)
    G.skill TT (PI) 1100 $140

If you have the money go for the q9550 then, I would hate to have got a q9450 and not be able to reach 4ghz :(

more than likely i will. but i am saying i could save about $250 if i went Q9450.

Sorry if i am being stubborn but idk if the Q9550 is worth the $550 pricetag

Don't bother with the Gskill PI. I'm RMA'ing mine. They won't even run at spec. Actually, the OCZ 1066's I'm selling clock higher. Maybe I got a bad set, but I thought I'd warn you.

I thought it was about 20 bucks more  erm then I would go for a q9450 and take my chances for a 4ghz.

if the price drops in Q3 like ive read i may just hold out..q9450 says is being phased out by q9400 and the Q9550 will be about $320

Yes, I was so pissed. They look sweet, but damn...I was getting thousands of errors when clocking either stick past 1020, regardless of voltage. Actually, once I went past 2.1v, there was no increase at all. Changed the timings in every way possible.

Quite possible it was a bad set, but I'm not willing to gamble on it. Oh, and I tried them on both my Biostar T45 and my DFI Blood Iron. On the BL, couldn't get it past 1000mhz

That sucks paulieg, Maybe it was a bad set because I've heard alot of good things about gskill ram and was thinking about getting some but went for 4gb of kingston hyperX because it was cheaper.

Good luck with that 4Ghz if you do go 9450. My X3350 can only seem to hit 3.8Ghz.

Hey man. I got that Q9450. Haven't had any problems with it at all. And with the huge price difference for not that much mhz gain on Q9550, I would say just stick with the Q9450. I have it at stock and it still performs great.

P.S. Don't want to trade it for your proc. lol. It has treated me just fine. [reference to an old post]

I would go for the QX if I could. The Q9450 only has a multi of 8 anyway

qx6850 will out clock a q9450 any day of the week and twice on sunday. imo it would be a bad decision to sell the qx6850 for a 9450. the 9450 will max out at 4GHZ if you cna hit that. the qx6850 can hit 4.5GHZ+ on the same cooling and have more speed options/multipliers.

    take a look at hwbot's qx6850's and the 9450's
