because you go into a Federal System the FBI is all over your IP if 30seconds flat, and if your out of the country expect a visit from interpol or the CIA. Also all the really good stuff isnt on the internet, youd have to gain access to a remote terminal in a secure government facility that is tied to there intranet, and not to the rest of the world, and add to that I belive Langley's server isnt even hooked up outside of Langley, so you'd actully have to get into Langley to do anything useful :p

The US Government is stupid enough to leave vital information accessable from the internet.

Imagine a situation where the LHC is running and is colliding particles, and the hackers shut off the magnet. Anyone who knows how the LHC works knows that the magnet that the hackers were "one step away" from keeps all those very-near-lightspeed particles in the LHC. The magnet is switched off while the LHC is running. What happens?

well, from what I've read, the LHC has seperate backup systems that will shut the machine down within seconds if something goes amiss . . .

but, I don't exactly say I can be trusting of scientists to design a system that's hacker-proof! TBH, CERN is probably as easy to hack into as your neighbor's WAN :p It's just a bunch of n00bz trying to prove themselves

No matter what, nothing wrong will happen. There's a very small probability for anything to to happen. And, if any black hole is created and goes out of control, it would need some mass to create damage on Earth. I read this on a web site some time ago.

They already have their own distributed computing: http://lhcathome.cern.ch/

Let's stop the cooling system in Morgoth's PC.

    That could be disastrous.
