Changing encryption key question

Would changing the encryption key mean that all current wireless devices would need the new password?

or would they still get instant access?

im attempting to throw a freeloader off our network.

our Thomson tg582 won't let me uncheck him off the WLAN option, or any other device for that matter, hence why im changing the password.

As far as i know changing the key will not kick people off the network untill the router is rebooted

Once the key has been changed and all devices have disconnected they will then need the new key to be able to connect to the wirelss again.
This is how it works with my router.

Just block the MAC address. But if you change the key then reboot the router it will drop him

I agree to this. You should setup MAC filtering so all of your devices are set in the filter table to allow network access and any other person trying to freeload would not be able to connect even with the WPA key. They can in fact clone their mac if they are smart enough to figure out one of your devices.
