System Name Sierra ~ Server
Processor Core i5-11600K ~ Core i3-12100
Motherboard Asus Prime B560M-A AC ~ MSI PRO B760M-P
Cooling CM 212 Black RGB Edition ~ Intel Stock Cooler
Memory 64GB (2x 32GB) DDR4-3600 ~ 32GB (4x 8GB) DDR4-3200
Video Card(s) XFX Radeon RX 6950 XT ~ EVGA GeForce GTX 970
Storage 4TB Samsung 990 Pro with Heatsink NVMe SSD ~ 2TB Kingston NV1 NVMe SSD + 500GB WD Blue SATA SSD
Display(s) 2x Dell S2721QS 4K 60Hz ~ N/A
Case Asus Prime AP201 - Open Frame Chassis
Power Supply Thermaltake GF1 850W ~ Thermaltake Smart 500W
Software Windows 11 Pro ~ Proxmox VE
Benchmark Scores Laptops: Dell Latitude E7270, Dell Latitude 14 Rugged 5420.
I'm looking for:
-1U (or 2U if needbe) server with Dual Xeon L5420 or single E3, 24-32GB ECC, and 4 SATA-II/III 3.5" drive bays. Hardware RAID w/BBU a plus but not required. IPMI would be a plus not required. Needs Gigabit Ethernet, and support for Virtualization.

-1U Atom dual core (with HT preferred) server with 4GB Ram and space for 1-2 SSDs. I like the short Supermicro ones but I'm not all that picky. With sliding rack rails would be a plus!

-4x SATA 3.5" WD RE3/4 series HDD used with no bad sectors and passing SMART data and otherwise completely functional. All need to be idential or at least same model, series, cache, interface speed, as they will be used in RAID! No desktop drives.

-4x 120(128) - 240(256)GB SSD. All 4 don't need to be the same. Just same pairs. (Need two pairs of drives, one is going in the above Atom server and one going into another server).

I want stuff that works fine, just as cheap as possible. I am probably going to buy the drives new but if I get a good offer on here, maybe a package offer, I could get them used. The servers should be reasonable quiet - they are going in an office that I will be in too so I can't have too much noise. But they won't be in a bedroom either so they don't have to be completely silent.

Thanks!

I picked up a 2U HP ProLiant DL160 off eBay for a rather good price. Started with a single E5405. A second heatsink ($12) and two E5450s for a really good price later, I had a pretty good little powerhouse for about $300-350 all in. Mine only came with 5GB memory, so it'd cost a little bit more to bump up the memory to what you're looking for, but it shouldn't be too bad of a price once all is said and done.

So far I've found this. It's a very good deal. Just a bit less RAM than I was hoping for. But when the 16GB would run out I'd have a planned maintenance to upgrade to 32GB or whatever the server supports. Ten minutes of downtime in a few months is worth it compared to spending twice as much up front.

The same seller also has some used 1TB WD RE4 drives but declined my offer. It's only $10 cheaper than a new (albeit consumer level not enterprise level) 1TB HDD on Amazon or Newegg.

Don't know if your interested or not, but I have a couple of enterprise class WD VRaptors here:

Matching pair of 300 gig drives. I don't have another pair or I would make ya a deal. They are fairly easy to come up with though. You should be able to find another pair on Ebay or possibly here. They are the HLFS enterprise drives.

Had one of those drives in one of my desktops and it was great. Unfortunately, the 16MB of Cache isn't enough. Other than that great price :)

How many hours are on the drives? You can use HD Tune or HD Tune Pro to read this from the SMART data (probably any other SMART utility too).
Thanks.

Actually Crystal Disk Info tells a person that.

One shows 25,548 and the other shows 19,765. :toast:
