Either the Asus or the Gigabyte should serve you well. The Asus should clock better thanks to the VDroop mod, but the Gigabyte will be more reliable/built for the long haul. You choice/whatever's at a better pricepoint, I think .
Gigabyte and Asus are a joint company now. Saying one is better than the other is pretty redundant.
Anyway, theonetruewill, the thread you linked to regards a combination of someone with a faulty capacitor (which happens) and pretty relentless overclocking. I've checked my capacitors, and mine are rated higher. Another thing to consider is that the thread is about 5 months old, so Asus has revised and changed things since then. Don't let that scare you, I've only heard good things about that board, and mine is solid as a rock!
