Another partition on the SAME harddisk will change nothing at all. Same harddisk is same harddisk and partitioning there isn't any different than putting something in a different folder... it's organizing, not speeding things up *sigh* RAM.. you need RAM ;)

Ok, well I have had this system now for about 3 weeks, and has been running great. Can't say I have had any problems out of it. But when I go to game, the more demanding games such as Battlefield 2, or Ghost Recon:AW, and maybe F.E.A.R sometimes., I get some choppyness when I get in for about 30 seconds.. After that time lengh, it is so smooth and not a hiccup one.. and I am getting high frame rates, so it wouldn 't be my card. Which leads me to think that it is probably my RAM right? Should I upgrade to 2Gigs when I get the money? Would it make a quite noticable difference in gaming?

Thanks for any information that you guys can give me. And if I have left anything out that you might need to know, don't hesitate to ask.

Ram ram ram ram ram. 2GB of it.

My systems are all very similar to yours, and RAM is the key. get 2GB of ram and defragment your hard drives more regularly, and your little lag spikes will go away.

Perhaps close more background apps too, to free some resources.

Choppyness at the beginning of a level is from loading graphical textures to the video card and system ram. no matter what you do you will had some of this, even with 2gb ram and the fastest hard drives in raid 0. all you have to do is a 360 at the beginning of the level. you will then load most of the scene and smooth out the performance.

a second harddrive for games will help in loading times, although not drastically.

Actually it can slow things down since the heads have to constantly go from the pagefile at one end of the drive to the data located farther down. Having the pagefile in the middle of your data is more efficient, as the heads have to travel less. However, it is a good idea to set the pagefile up with a decent minimum size.

i can guarantee 2GB of ram give me no load stutter at all in BF2, and i game at 1280x1024 with everything maxed but AA - i leave it off for some buttery smoothness (256MB card limits me)

ditto thats what i did but i made mine on a totally diff disk.

Thats whats recommend....

As for the location, i guess the beginning is correct. I learned this technique from M$ on their tweaks/otimzation docs, and they located on the back...and they said that the back = the rear.

or.. you do what Alec§taar does...use a ramdrive and set the page on that.

its definately ram for battlefield 2 i read on someother forums along time ago many people used to get lag for a short time after a level reload in bf2 i do but only for 10 secs or less

2gb is still cutting it for bf2, its goes above 2...more around 3...
