Sorry -- these hardly even qualify for light gaming. I know you've done some research and you have a tight budget, but it's not worth upgrading at all if these are your only choices.

The GTX 750 is the lowest card I ever recommend to anyone for any kind of gaming and it is not expensive. You can use your existing power supply and will be running newer games at 720p/1080p and low/medium details with this card.

I'd recommend saving up for at least a GTX 750. It's still a low-end card, but far better than either the R7 240 or the GT 640. It also has low power consumption, so it should run with your current PSU.

If you go with the R7 240 or GT 640, afterwards it's likely that you'll end up wishing that you had bought a better card. AFAIK even the price-to-performance ratio is better on the GTX 750.

Arrow123, is this the SFF (small form factor) slim case or micro tower case? I have deployed a handful of the HP 6000 Pro and Elite PCs here at work. I'm sitting beside two of them now.

These are a little abnormal as the motherboard is a BTX form factor. If you get a card that's too long the CPU cooler plastic shroud will get in the way, but it shouldn't be a problem for these lower end (shorter) cards.

Ha! I'm replying to you on a 6000 Pro MT.

It has a 320W power supply (two 12V rails, one 14A and one 12A) and supports video cards no longer than 7 inches. (I just measured)

So any of the cards you listed including the GTX 750 will work. BTW, you can upgrade the processor up to a Q9650 as well.

I wouldn't recommend anything higher than a 750 or 750 Ti because the CPU cooler is going to be blowing the hot air directly onto the video card due to the BTX layout. Along with the lack of any intake fans most video cards will be running pretty toasty in there.

GT 740 doesn't require a 6-pin. Should be fine.

The GT 740 is the same price as the GTX 750 / Ti here in the USA. I don't even know why you'd consider it?

The GT 740 is

less than HALF the speed

of the GTX 750 for the same price -- or out of the USA I'm sure it's very close.

You're SURE you want to get a GT 740 after seeing those scores?

Edit: The reason I'm pushing this point is because you're already running an old Core 2 Duo system so you will not get anywhere near the kind of performance you're aiming for with a card any slower than a GTX 750. Major review sites are using high-end systems to benchmark, you know? The gameplay you'll get with one of these cards is much lower than if it were plugged into a modern system.

i saw all that ..........i come to this point that .......buy a low end gpu for this time ...save money and later upgrade the psu and gpu both ..therefore trying to get a low end gpu like gt 640....

There's a lot of exaggeration here. I used a proprietary GT 640 GDDR5 that was only available to Dell and was in every respect except core clock, identical to the GTX 650. It's not a bad card for 1080p gaming at low settings. It is not inferior to Intel's integrated graphics save for Crystalwell (still debatable), and definitely not the majority of AMD's with the exception of uncut Spectre iGPUs.

The GT 740 is a rebrand of the GTX 650. It's not that bad, but in the US and Canada, you're better off getting a GTX 750, since the price is not far off. Also, the GTX 650 is not half the performance of GTX 750. Passmark is ridiculous.

However, the GT 640 (all versions) and the R7 240 are equally atrocious and just not even worth buying. I don't particularly like Linus, but he has a youtube video about why you shouldn't buy the R7 240. I'd say that you should probably either save money to get something better, or just get a GTX 750.

The difference here is about $30 between 1GB models and almost $50 between the 2GB models.

I would say it is an insignificant difference only if the GTX750 performs a lot better... Otherwise I would just get the GT 740. :shadedshu:
