It's official: John Chambers killed off the Linksys brand name, which is very well known throughout the United States. Cisco is replacing Linksys with the new, aggressive product line that Cisco has to offer. John Chambers, the CEO of Cisco, says "It (Linksys) will all come over time into a Cisco brand. The reason we kept Linksys' brand because it was better known in the US than even Cisco was for the consumer. As you go globally there's very little advantage in that".

Cisco products will appear in place of Linksys products very soon.

    hmm.

    Almost makes a difference.

However, I do like how cisco has greatly improved the "linksys" switches recently. Full metal case, etc.

Hopefully they maintain some stability in the devices too.

Well I know Cisco about as well as I know Linksys, so no harm no foul in that.

I was happy when they took over the operations and what not for them. Im gonna miss the name, but going off their routers and switches and even their server hardware and os, Cisco is one bad mamma jamma.

i think it is more of a re branding exercise, i personally don't use Linksys products because i have always found them to be problematic and unreliable which is a reputation the Linksys brand had been gaining.

I think they made the right decision. Cisco is much a much stronger beand than linksys. And there's so much cheapo no-name network stuff these days, the linksys brand sits uncomfortably between cheap and quality. Brand confusion for one company.

My Linksys router is fine... I don't see the issue with Linksys, our router sits comfortably on a shelf in a computer desk and has been for years without issues...

Actually Linksys is known to have one of the best routers around, WRT54G(L/S). Those have alternative firmware available which make it so damn worth to get one.
Forget the default firmware, it sucks. Linksys must have, and must still make a fortune out of those little fuckers.

Totally true, nothing comes close to it for hacked firmware. Seems odd they'd drop the name - there's a hell of a lot of brand recognition, but then again "Cisco" is quite well known.

It`s their right to change it but I still think it`s a bad move.Cisco is more known to the professionals than to the home/office users that are using Linksys products.Yes there are some proffesional orientied Linksys products but their main market is the home/office devices .... such as the popular WRT54G.
Well only the time will show how that`s gonna work out.
