so i'm fixing my friends compaq and his motherboard won't detect any of the hdd's

and i can't seem to reformat the maxtor that came with the compaq and its just sitting there and can be used as storage. i tried everything and i can't even install an OS on the maxtor but my WD can't be detected on the compaq even if it has an OS.

    whats going on here? :banghead:
