Happy to see it go. Because their store managers are rude people. They have poorest customer service. Worst return policy.

Though I got some good deals for 2 thanks giving sale.

I've never actually made a purchase from CompUSA, but I do have friends who have shopped there and it's pretty sad to hear about this. I'm the type of person who buys most computer goodies online, tax free, and don't deal with going to stores. Although, the main reason I never went to CompUSA was because there simply wasn't one near my location. It really does suck to hear that CompUSA is going out of business... :ohwell:

I went to comp today and asked about it/ They said that it has been bought, and the plan is to close the stores. There is no date on when this is going to take place yet.

Same on my end here - they've got no clue how long they'll be on life support.

I guess on the now and in-between, I'll be dropping in a little more often to see how prices are looking. Our store here doesn't put out that many advertisements as it is . . .

CompUSA closing down doesn't mean it'll sell its stock for peanuts to comsumers and eat losses. Instead, CompUSA would sell its commodity stock back to its distributors or to other stores at a negotiable price and end up reducing its losses.

What? They have a great return policy. At least 30days, no questions asked.

As far as customer service and management, my CompUSA is fine as well. There are a few bad apples, but most of the people are helpful and polite.

O. Not to mention, thanks JC316 for letting us know about the Dumpster, if Im not mistaken, they have one around back, though its hard as hell to get to.

No problem. Last year, I scored a couple of decent PC's out of their dumpster. A 1.6GHZ Celeron and some complete P3's. I parted them out and got a decent price from em.

Just went to CompUSA today and got the official story from them. Yeah there aint no special close out deals yet but they said that in my best interest to come back immediately after Christmas to get the great deals since they will be closing every single CompUSA store all 103 of them by or on December 31, 2007. Yikes.

Right now im sitting here typing from inside Atlanta Bread Company whic is right next door to CompUSA.

Whats this firm called Special Equity, going to do with all of these closed down CompUSA stores anyways? I mean if they just wanted the property rights to build a store chain, why not start from the ground up rather than buying out a well known store? It still makes no sense to me why a company would want to buy out CompUSA and then close the rest of them down, none whatsoever.

Yes, they changed their policy back and forth. Few months it was with no re-stocking fee and then it came back.

I went to exchange a 50pk Sony DVD-R which was from the factory with dust and finger prints on 90% of the DVDs(suprising, brand new sealed pack). I saw several of those in their returned bin. So I thought I will go with trusted TDK. That stupid rep thought I did abuse it and wanted to exchange. They knew that I have bought more than $1000 from that store. Still that manager acted up. I said "Screw u. Not coming back to this store" and never went back.

That may be what caused CompUSA to go down, they didnt understand that the customer is right 95% of the time.:cry:

CompUSA is set to close its remaining 103 shops after it was sold to private equity firm Special Equity on Friday. This should mean some great bargains for consumers buying PC equipment, as CompUSA will need to sell all of its remaining stock before it closes its stores after the holiday period. There were signs that CompUSA was in trouble earlier this year when it closed half its stores in March, and now it looks as though increasing pressure from firms such as Best Buy and Circuit City has driven it out of business.

Source: CNET

Circuit City???? They have closed many of their stores already. I don't think they had much to do with it but New Egg and online retailers may.

OMG why...why...that store is the only store that I could get a good price for the stuff I buy and not pay shipping and just going to the store instead.

I never had one close to my house, or a BestBuy for that matter. We do have a Circuit City though that is horrible. I only shop there when something goes wrong and my computer needs it immediately. I've bought a few overpriced PSUs there over the years.
