So i've had my computer for a while now and it just seems to be slowing down exponentially. I've defragged it, wiped the drive and reinstalled the os. It just still is slow. It takes almost a minute to load a starcraft 2 map. Any of you guys have an idea of what could be going wrong, or if it is just that it is old.

Scan for viruses. It's what I do anytime I think my PC is slow.

Run malwarebyte's anti-malware. Oh, and I'd switch to Avast over AVG.

If the O/S was reinstalled there should be no viruses. Use HD Tune and check the HDD for errors.

Make sure your HDD is not over 75% full. That will kill its performance.
... and then do what Erocker ninja posted before I could write this.

Additionally you could defenestrate the computer. I find that's the only thing that ever works when it comes to computers and Windows.

(I swear there's a pun in there somewhere.)

I too would also suspect your hard drive. If it's the 250GB drive, it probably has some hours on it since they probably haven't been made in a while (?). If loading data seems to getting slower and slower thats my guess.

Listen to Radical_Edward, Kreij and erocker...

Run Autoruns and see what is starting in the logon and such.

Run HiJackthis and see if any baddies are lurking. And, get rid of them with Malwarebytes and Superantispyware, if they find any.

Run CCleaner.

Just an opinion here. I ran some research on your board at Gigabyte and your at the bottom of the memory scal with what you are currently using GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-DS4 AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X ATX Ultra Durable II AMD Motherboard
QVL List and if your specs are correct on Win7 X64 you are way under memory wise and then try to run a game or do some multitasking? If your Hard Drive checks out then I really believe you should think about adding at least 2 more Gb of Ram. JMHO.

You're low on RAM. Increase it. Also, buy another HDD and place your games there. You should see much improvement, I would say it would be twice as fast. If you want to get it over with just with RAM, then get at least 8GB+ and disable the pagefile. It would make thinks response almost instantly.
