sounds like a good idea, but it would cause uncertified people at the college to get their hands on a gun for shootings, etc. etc. also people could during emotional instability whip out their gun and kill someone, etc. etc.

I'm all for it. People fuck around less when you could die. This way, the emotional wackjobs that do bring guns end up dead, not on my payroll the rest of their lives.

It happens anyway, the people that want to kill WILL get the guns and we are left holding our dicks waiting to get shot.

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't even think about trying to shoot or rob someone that might be carrying a .38 special.

    9mm jacketed.

Small, light, accurate, and able to punch through someone, and their shit. Or pop through a engine.

My cousin is a major in the army, and he got special permission to visit the base, and he showed us a rifle using I think it was .45 ammo. He fired a round into the floor, and it went in about half a foot. That's the kind of ammo I'd use.

who told you that a jacketed 9mm would penetrate an engine block?

and for self defense you dont want a round that will go all the way through the body, you want it to stay inside(so you dont hit the innocent) and fragment.
if you want good self defense a 9mm will work, but if you dont want them to live and sue you then get a .40cal whatever (I have a glock) and this ammo below.
I live in Nevada so a ccw is easy to get, you can carry in your car, and you can carry without a ccw as long as its showing. GET A CCW!

If you outlaw guns, only criminals will have them.

The arguments against it based on the idea that if someone was emotionally unstable, they could pull out their gun and shoot somebody are completely false.

If someone is emotionally unstable enough to pull out a gun and shoot somebody, then they wouldn't have any trouble at all pulling out a knife, a bat, or any other weapon that is just as deadly in the hands of a murderer. Legal guns in the hands of citizens protect against such people.

Ultimately if somebody wants a gun to murder somebody, they will get it either through legal or illegal means. It isn't hard to buy a gun off the streets.

Exactly why gun crime is on the rise in Britain. Have more legally armed citizens, upstanding citizens, and watch the murders plummet. As said above, once there's a possibility of your life being on the line, you probably won't step outta line.

There are actually legal channels through which you could get a gun in Britain, but it's so damned difficult, and having a concealed weapon is a big no-no, with handguns having basically a total ban, AFAIK, unless you're in the police, even then, only if you're high up, such as SO19... not even SO12 is allowed guns unless they have reason to believe they'll be necesarry for self-defense while on the job.

and if you want something with some extreme velocity then get one of these. They shoot like a .22 and are accurate, only $900.00 to 1,000.00us
below that is the ammo they fire.

Wow what kind of rifle is that behind the shotgun?

Looks like a pimped-out AK of some sort.

15.000 people a year. Wow... WTF is wrong there... Do you feel okay with that?

So you think just based on a few statistics, the murder rate in the US can be blamed on firearms?

FYI: Switzerland has one of the highest amount of firearms per capita in the world, but one of the if not the lowest murder rates in the world!

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/1566715.stm

They actually give rifles to every citizen.

You can't blame the murder rate in the US on the availability of firearms alone. The US has a lot more civil strife than other westernized countries, especially those in north/eastern europe. The mix of cultures forced into low-income neighborhoods ('ghettos') is the real problem with gun crime here. Every major city has it's china town, little mexico, and a black hood. Thing's get even worse when these neighborhoods are mixed together. Poverty is the biggest factor in crime rates, not the firearm distribution.

The united states is a patchwork of many cultures and peoples that dont always get along so well at a social level. Government-enforced segregation of blacks only ended about 40 years ago, it's hard to understand how deeply rooted racism is here unless you see it for yourself.

So you think we're crazy? At least the US didn't try to exterminate all black people.

Again you take what the media shows you to the extreme and eat it up like a fine meal. That is a television portrayal, and like the interwebs you can't believe everything. I know people who have guns in their home, many, many guns. And they are kept in safe places unloaded, and locked in such a way that a child couldn't get it loaded and put together.

I had a friends 30.06 in a locked case, with a cable lock through the action, and the bolt out, pin removed, ammo upstairs in a separate cabinet.

I keep a loaded and ready paintball semi-auto gun, and loaded and locked paintball pistol around. My wife and I have discussed getting a 9mm for protection against wildlife while camping and hiking, keeping it loaded and hidden in a secret panel I am going to build. I have had my home broken into, and with either a paintball gun, or 9mm that perp would have been caught, or wishing he never saw me. As it was I beat his ass, and he left with nothing but a missing shirt and probably some bruises and losing a bit of blood.

I guess many victims would be injured instead of dead.
Many potential killers would not have the "courage" to use a knife > must get very close to the victim
Firearm killing > just pull the trigger, makes it psychologically easier. Higher risk for deadly accidents & underestimating weapon´s impact etc.

Yeah, I know that for a looong time (not the idiot part ;)).
Have you ever been to Switzerland? It´s VERY special there. You wouldn´t believe it.
Highest disciplined / self-controlled overall behavior I´ve ever noticed among a crowd of natives. Can only be topped by certain Asians.

So just because there are stupid people, guns should be banned?

I guess that's the european attitude of government protecting people from themselves. I wonder how long until someone sues their government for not preventing them from choking to death on their own saliva.

No matter what weapons the government bans, there will still be civil strife, and the US will still have more murders than any other western nation.

At this point in time, banning guns would do no good. The people who are doing the shooting dont get their guns through legal means anyways. Guns are already widely proliferated throughout the country, and banning them would leave them only in the hands of criminals.

Here in w michigan, it is a little bit different than most places. Here some schools shut down completly for the first couple days of deer season, and quite a few people here have guns, and quite a few.

    That ones mine
Mossburg 20ga with a pistolgrip and no plug. Even though its a pump I can fire 9 rounds in 4 seconds.

The key to firearm safety is not classes, its simply exposure. If all you know is that this guy down the street is a gangmember with a gun, thats what you think is norm. Here in michigan guns are a part of life, due to hunters safety being very widespread, our very important deer season, and the general hillbilly attitude we have. As soon as I can I am getting a concealed weapons permit for the safety of myself and others.

Imagine a country with speed limit 100 mph in cities and a high percentage of deadly car accidents a year caused by stupid people REALLY doing 100 mph in cities.

    Would you say...

[] A "Damn, I better hit the pedal to catch up. And this SUV is in need of some more airbags.."
    or...
[] B "Let´s talk to the government. They have to stop the madness!"

1.) What´s the "illegal means" percentage anyway?
2.) Does that also include "He had stolen the key to his father´s safe and so got the weapon blabla"?

Because people wanted it to happen that way. How about them?

Fortunately, my imperfect government guarantees me this basic right:
Everyone has the right to life and to inviolability of his person.
    Which I take VERY seriously.

true, but classes are good. I think anybody who buys a firearm should go through some kind of training, not just for handguns but rifles too. But you are also right about exposure, I grew up around guns and learned to respect them at a very young age. I use to do IDPA but have'nt now for a while, but thats a fun thing to get into and can train you for home intrusions. First question the CCW instructor asked us was "if your life was being threatened would you think twice about killing that person" If you hesitate with the answer to that question you dont need to carry.

A German pointing their finger at American gun control and saying "tisk, tisk" is down right hilarious! Why don't you ask a someone with a number tattooed on their forearm if they support gun control. The Nazis killed about 21 million people, not including war casualties. They also wrote the book on "gun control" which in modern government terms is "civil control". As an American I don't hold every German accountable for the atrocities of the Nazi government. My mother was of German decent and my great grandmother which came to this country in the 30's couldn't even speak English. But watch what you say to a foreigner when you speak about certain subjects. Not every culture is the same. Not every government. Not every person. So not every law should be ether. Gun control works for some people and others it doesn't. A good example of this would be parts of Africa.

How about Zimbabwe? Full gun control is really working out there pretty well also. We (America) may be a young country but our government is older than most of the western worlds current governments. We have had our current constitution for well over 200 years all of which has always supported guns for the people. Your country on the other hand was INVENTING MACHINES that could kill people like live stock less than 65 years ago.

Say what you want about our foreign policy because it changes every 4 to 8 years but our 200 year old constitution works. Our founding fathers made it the SECOND amendment, not the 15th or 20th. This should tell you that our founding fathers thought free speech and the right to back it up should go hand in hand as the first and second amendment states. What good are words if you don't have the means to back them up?

don't forget, though, either, that the 2nd amendmant to the constituition was par to f the original bill of rights, because until the patriots declared their independance, the British governmnet did not permit the common man to bear any weapons for any means and/or purpose, and those that were caught with firearms were severelly punished for it.

our founding fathers thought that was completely absurd that the common worker couldn't protect themselves from the overbearing rule of the government - and they also realized that there could be no standing militia without armed citizens.

it's just sad that too many americans have thaken the 2nd amendment out of context. Personaly, I don't own a weapon, and considering the region within which I live, there is very little need for one. Our region seems to be low on the crime ratings (except for neighboring cities), but, to be honest, should things get worse here, or should I have to move to a rougher environment, I would.

Hunting is a big part of life in this city, so firearms of any sorts don't particuarly phase me.
