AnandTech has a detailed review of the impact of cpu speed, features, and brand on the performance of Oblivion. Specifically, the article compares the hyperthreading feature of the Pentium 4 6-series, to SMP on the Athlon 64 X2. The impact of cpu speed vs gpu speed is also examined in this article.

basically what most of us already knew, a balanced system performs best.

Odd how hyperthreading outperforms smp on a dual core though :wtf:

all it really says is dont pair a 1000 dollars plus worth of x1900s with a amd 3000.. hmm.. all highly relevant stuff.. he he

but i think in 1800le and downwards land the story would have been completely different..

well of course CPU effects everything.

transfer to/from ram, video ram, soundcard, bus stabilty, orchistrating in game features.
just because you have a beast of a video card doesnt mean the info is gonna get to it smoothly.

    hmm

maybe they should do a review on the effecency of electrical travel on the processors next. im mor disapionted with the features that morrownd has and oblivion lacks then my pc's preformance.

most of the fighting is indors anyway.. not like you render that far. i have my detail up way high.. i let goldbrand sort out my video lag for me when the npcs attack.. :)
