    i would liek a reccomendation for an amd and an intel system for the aformentioned price, this is for ram (1 stick), processor (dualcore) and mobo (no pc hips, asrock, sis via).

    Well, as long as you're sticking with just mobo/CPU/RAM, then you can get quite a lot for $230 :).


    I will take charge of the AMD system....will have a proper configuration in about 10 minutes.

    Great price on the RAM, but www.buy.com has 2x1gb DDR2-800 Crucial Ballistix for $60 shipped :)

    I'm only saying this because: my friend's tiger direct build lasted a month and a half. I'd never buy from them.

    FBI: Why only one stick? I was able to fit a dual-channel kit in the build I proposed, which'll give you plenty more bandwidth and performance at an almost equivalent price. And even if it is more...dual channel RAM is almost always worth the extra couple bucks, unless you're building a laptop and are on a budget.

    his intention is to go to 2 X 1 eventually but i guess i can convince him to jsut go with it from the get go.

    in that case then yes, for sure go with it from the getgo, it can be difficult to find a matching stick that will work in dual channel down the road
