So is this worth playing I wonder? The mod was laced with hackers and I'm not sure I want to spend money on this if its going to be a hack fest just like the mod. But good news all the same.

I'm wondering the same, though as this is the alpha I would bet that there are going to be a ton of issues. I think I may go ahead and pay to get it as I am very excited to play the standalone. I haven't played the mod, due to hackers and the crappy engine.

    Downloading it now.

@Castiel, you should really check out the DayZ Epoch mod. There's a server I play on often and I haven't had issues with hackers. Plus, it's the most stable FPS happy server I've ever played on in any Arma mod. Not only that, it's by far the best, most complete version of DayZ there is. :)

If anyone is going to play the standalone today, let me know! My in game name will either be erocker or The Batman.

It really wasn't. But the whole reason for doing a lot of the switching was to deter hackers and such. So it shouldn't be.

I am downloading it as we speak. Told myself I wouldn't..but I can't resist, lol.

So far I've only played on a night server. Things are running quite smoothly. Loot is around by not nearly as easy to find as it is scattered about everywhere. Haven't found a gun yet but I got a bunch of different clothing, wrenches and other doo-dads. Probably came across 10 other people and no one attacked. Minus the little bugs and stuff it does indeed seem like a more polished DayZ.

There are only night servers right now AFAIK (at the time of this post I'm saying). It is running smooth...animations are a shit load smoother. Loot is not prevalent. Killing has been easier for me for some reason, but the two guys I killed both of their bodies disappeared. I like the new menu, just takes getting used to. Items are disappearing on me and stuff when I don't have room or pick up something accidentally and stuff..it's kinda a pain but you get used to it. It is more polished so far but I want to play during the day and really see it. Being able to go into most buildings is awesome. The health thing is annoying because you know when you're going to pass out (screen gets blurry and shit) after 100 messages (annoying) but I liked the icon system better. And once you pass out, apparently it can be for like 30 minutes or forever..so don't pass out or prepare to respawn. It's interesting so far, as I said want to get some more gameplay but I guess it is a worth improvement as much shit as I like to talk about the team pussyfooting around.

Watching a stream on my GS3 while at work. Looks alright. The guy I am watching has a bunch of stuff. He killed a zombie in a tent with an axe and the body disappered through the floor! Looks kind of boring. Watching CrReaM.

A couple of forum posts on Steam put the file size at 4.9GB for one and 5.4GB for the other, so somewhere around 5GB would be my guess.

Played DayZ for a fairly long time, was tempted to get this, then I start playing Rust. Now I will never bother playing DayZ again. The few servers I was on it was "whoever finds the DMR, wins". I liked the TPU server though, lots of fun with AI and patrols.

Rust isn't open for everyone last time I checked though?

The file is between 5 and 6gb. I believe it was somewhere around 5400mb, not sure.

I think I'm going to buy DayZ, Rust and 7 Days to Die. I hope they go on sale this winter sale

Hows Rust? Have you played Gmod? does the controls, movement, feeling similar to it? Is it a bit arcadey and more fast paced compared to DayZ?

Rust was just released as a steam early access for $20, funny because if I remember it correctly, They were already developing DayZ Standalone when Rust was even announced and look where the games are. Rust looks more stable and playable now. Not surprised though, Rust maker is Garry Newman(maker of Gmod) and it is using the source engine..

Probably buy Rust when I get home then. DayZ will always have a special love/hate relationship with me though.

ill wait till its $5. Bought arma pack for the mod and was disappointed. So hard to setup (took an hour) and then servers were filled with douchebags.
