figured i'd let everyone know that i got tired of my temp issues that i detailed in about 4 different posts here on tpu. decided to just take that ihs off, and this is my honest to god truth about the effect this had. now mind you i am using an ultra 120. i lapped it temps got better but not good enough, so i lapped the ihs and temps went from 38idle to 35 idle... ok that's a little better right well this is what i did next

    5000be at 3.38Ghz 1.50v

    ~~no lapping-ihs or hsf
    idle 40
    load 55

    ~~hsf lapping only
    idle 37
    load 53~

    ~~hsf/ihs lapped
    idle 35
    load 50

    ~~IHS GONE!!!!!!
    idle 29
    load 45

now that's bragging rights for you

Nice :toast::toast: Now if only intel CPUs could do the same.

i'm also noticing a much better heat output from each core, the dts on die doesn't work from crap for telling me what the actual core temp does, but it does do a good job of telling me what the variance between each core is, so that's working out as well, the corres are only 3-5c difference from each other..

I recall specific AMD cores being crushed commonly by heatsinks because they were "naked". Heatspreaders are so evil, protecting your core and all.

the heatspreaders are already made of copper, they're just nickel plated. I don't think the cost would justify the end result magnus. Nice idea tho.

Good job exodus :) Can you go much higher than 3.3ghz now, using the same v's?

fair enough, i tried to drill through a core once with a carbide tip trill and wasted two drill bits... i think the core will be fine, it has no where to be crushed to anyways, the old core maybe because you could push the core right through the pcb but on 939/am2 systems the pins cover the whole core on the underside so it's reletively stable with it there, and who gives, it's an inexpensive chip, if it breaks, it's just an excuse to get a 6400 be lol
