Anyone interested in going halves (or more if Theirs a few of us) on a dedicated box for game server hosting and etc..?

Figure we can make a PayPal account that everyone pitches their share into and get a fairly decent dedicated box.

This will not end well. Instead, you should pony up the cash and ask regulars who play on it to donate some bucks for the cause. That worked well for me in the past.

What game did anyone actually pay to help run the server and what incentives (if any) were offered?

Just wondering since the group I'm with has a BF4 server. We put the money up for 6 months and I'm trying to encourage people to pay to keep it around. Unfortunately it does not seem to be working at all so I thought I'd ask for some insight.

I agree....this will not end well. Ive run servers with people and on my own. When running with equal partners it never ends well. No one agrees...and shit hits the fan.

Buy the server yourself and ask for donations.

What game are you thinking about anyway? I'm one person that might consider what you are proposing just because Ive done it many times and I don't care how its run. I'm kinda the exception to the rule though.

I paid for a BF:BC2 server for 6 months. I asked the usual people I played with at the time that if I rented a server on a monthly basis if they would chip in. 2 guys, Digibucc and laughingman each paid for an entire month on their own ($50). The rest donated 5-10 bucks a month. It worked out really well.
