Ouch, the processor's ass must be busted with the weight of 1.6V bearing on it !

SO will this still require less power than Intel Core2's at 1.6V ?

Leave a thanks ! Cmon you can do it ! :D Just kidding, its your choice afterall !

EDIT : Forgot to include the link to original post , ( dumb me )

you'll be amazed how many times people look at the things besides the main thing in a picture lol, i tended to notice the big mofo sitting on top of the cpu with a POS fan on top. i always notice the tiny details before the main one lol :p

45nm Intel quads generally do 4GHz on 1.4V or less.

At any rate, while this is a step in the right direction for AMD, this just proves we won't be seeing FX's releasing at 4GHz.

A step in the right direction, but still nothing that peaks my interest. Intels Quads do 4GHz at 1.4v, and the Intel architecture performs better clock for clock. So a 4GHz Intel should outperform a 4GHz Deneb.

Wait wait wait what? less power than Intel Core2's at 1.6V???? Does that mean less FSB?

For what it's worth my fsb might be higher but I hit 4.4ghz without even increasing my voltages over .05 from stock, that's 1.3V. For a 45nm 1.6V has got to be suicide unless I'm missing something.

Looks like a step in the right direction! Can't wait to see some more from AMD.

Agreed, I wanna see all that power tested.

why do you always have to post in topics that don't even pertain to your interests?

Anyways- thats the First AMD ive heard to hit 4 GHz- that is a step in the right direction i guess, but i want to see more IPC. Athlon XP was able to hit 3.0GHz only under peltier with enhanced VRM/Chipset/Ram-VRM cooling, next from that is 2.7GHz and then 2.5.

I'm interested in it, as I'm interested in all hardware related news, especially when it is about overclocking. This just doesn't raise my interest level any more than it already was.

doesn't matter, really. if Deneb is PRICED right the point is it performs, period. if it does :p

"clock for clock" doesn't really mean anything if you know what you're getting and paying what its worth. IOW if Deneb can come close to intel at one point or another and undercut them price wise, that is good for enough many. even if the "fastest" Denub can only match a "midrange" Nehelam. if priced well it will be a viable choice for a lot of people

at least it gives us something new from AMD to consider

1.6v on a 45nm is hardly what I'd want to pay for... Do AMD boards support DDR3 yet, will the new boards support DDR3?

Further along in his post he had a X2 5000+ sitting on an FSB of 400 at x8 multi on that same board... Crazy. One bump to the multi would take him to 3.6ghz o.o

Oh, and AM3 chipset will be supporting DDR3, not AM2+

    No and Yes

AM3 will have official support for DDR3.

That CPU fan & heatsink looks massive in this point of view. Deneb reaching 4ghz is a good thing, but the voltage isn't. 1.6V is too much.

Yes, it shows that we won't be seeing 4+ GHz FX chips. For AM2+, expect a 20550 BE. For AM3, there could be FX chips at 3.2-ish GHz with unlocked multipliers.
