DFI has announced a new mini-ITX form factor motherboard in the LR100-N16M which offers low power consumption, higher-performance, and fanless cooling. This board utilizes the latest two-chip Intel Atom processor N450 and Intel 82801HM I/O Controller (also referred to as "ICH8M") system solution. This smaller integrated two-chip platform uses approximately 40% less board space than previous generation three-chip solutions, and provides higher performance per watt than any previous Intel Atom processor-based platform.

The LR100-N16M mini-ITX motherboard is equipped with a 45nm Hi-K technology Intel Atom processor N450 with 5.5W TDP, 667MHz front side bus (FSB) and 1.67GHz core frequency. In addition, this single core processor features a 512kb 8-way L2 cache, 64bit computing support using Intel 64 architecture, on-die memory and graphics controllers, all in a small Micro-GCBGA8 package. Integrating the memory and graphics controllers on the processor die increases performance, reduces the board footprint, and lowers power consumption over the previous generation three-chip platforms.

Support is provided for up to 2GB of DDR2 667 MHz single-channel system memory and dual PCI Express Gigabit LAN controllers. Additional features include The Intel GMA 3150 graphics engine an improved graphics accelerator with VGA and LVDS interfaces providing dual-independent display capability for graphics intensive and multimedia applications. The integrated graphics engine contains a refresh of the 3rd generation graphics core supporting DirectX 9.0c compliant Pixel Shader 2.0. The LR100-N16M also provides ACPI 3.0 Power management with Intel SpeedStep technology, three Serial ATA ports with speed up to 3Gb/s, ten USB 2.0/1.1 ports, four Serial COM ports, one CompactFlash socket and high-definition audio support with S/PDIF input/output interface. This embedded Mini-ITX motherboard provides expansion using 1 PCI Express x1 slot for networking and RAID cards, and 1 PCI slot to support legacy card functions.

This low-power motherboard is ideal for applications requiring a stable revision-controlled platform, such as gaming, industrial control automation, POS and Kiosk, medical equipment embedded applications. POS (Point of Sale) terminal and kiosk applications are widely used to automate sales transaction processing. Data collected at the time and place of sale provides real-time product pricing, processing of electronic billing, monitoring of inventory run-rates, and collection of other vital marketing data. POS terminals are used at malls, gas stations, supermarkets, restaurant, airports, warehouse, and touch the life of virtually every consumer. These applications benefit from the smaller Mini-ITX board form factor and lower power requirements of the Intel Atom processor N450 and Intel 82801HM I/O Controller Hub.

    DFI LR100-N16M Features:
    • Mini-ITX form factor
    • Intel Atom processor N450
    • Intel 82801HM I/O Controller
    • Up to 2GB of DDR2 667 MHz SODIMM memory
    • Integrated Intel GMA 3150 Graphics Engine
    • 2 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet LAN controllers

Green PCB, who the hell uses that anymore?!?

Sorry, I had to add that. :D

Besides the strange amount of Com ports... ISn't this the "half end" of the board that was going to be ran on the DFI hybrid board? Remember the board that was going to have the switch, to go from 775 to atom? Wasn't the Atom setup just like this?

i wonder what weird case would let you use the 1x slot and PCI-E slot at the same time.

Cold Storm: no, that was built into a mobo. this has a seperate board.

Yeah, I know the board was built in as one. I'm saying, wasn't the specs, for the ATom part of the board, almost the same as this that is coming out?

cant you say that about EVERY atom board tho? they're all the same size, with integrated CPU's...

Yeah, you can say that about the size and CPU. I'm talking more of Sodimm and Compact Flash Socket.. I'm at work, so i can't just throw at you what I'm saying via their spec sheet on that hybrid board... the Atom part of it..

POS applications primarily, though I suppose there may be a few others... A lot of scan guns, card readers, receipt printers, and other similar devices utilize COM or RJ-45 connections for data and sometimes even power.

serial port.... pretty much old skool usb basically.
It allows you to plug in a controller and send commands / messages into the pc

I used to use it for MIDI controllers back in the day before usb was around

This mobo is intended to use as an embedded cpu in certain workstations wich requires a pc to run another machine in a job enviroment, this is not for us electronic consumers. So that's why it has 2 lan ports or 3 rs232 ports, as serial port is used as an industry standard connection port, as dial-up modems, they are widely used in industry. Also isa port is still used, even some 30-year-old-cpus are still used for certain purposes, as they do well it's work.

If you are looking this mobo only for entertainment purpose, you lose your time.

Sueprmarkets to run scanners, signature capture pads, 2 LAN ports one interface for internal store communications and POS, and one for external authourizations on cards. A large network of both to check for connection problems and to make sure nothign is being done on the auth side.

    perfect.

unfortunately also only for the bulk build places like Safeway, Walmart, Target...

Steevo hit it on the nail.

These boards are for industrial use, such as POS station. A lot of scientific equipment still use serial. Also, I know that carputers need many serial connections so it can adapt to the cars features, like GPS or telemetry.

With its dual Gigabit network controllers it can be a perfect routing/firewall server :D
I suppose it's cheaper to put in a few RS232 ports... I don't think the market it's aiming for will need eSATA and Firewire or Wireless or HDMI or anything along those lines.
Also, with a compactflash slot it's perfect for integrated POS clients as you can pop a cheap compactflash card in and have a complete integrated board with some decent abilities and small size... ;)
