i don't expect them to save kittens, but if they keep their word and place pc at a higher importance than every other dev - then it's at least better than most crap pr articles.

If they deliver a good product who cares what they say? Starcraft may not sell more units than Call of Duty 7: Custard's Revenge but it doesn't mean Starcraft or the PC Platform is a failure. The only reason CoD games sell as well as they do is because they dumb down the fps genre (yes, that can actually happen) to the lowest common denominator where it basically becomes run down these narrow corridors and spray stuff--OMG YOU SO NASTY!? Then they market the crap out of it splicing in some Eminem songs and all the teenage kids and frat-boys eat it up like it's Crack.

CoD sells well for the same reason the Wii sold well, not because it was a fantastic product, but because it seemed great to a lot of really stupid people.

I was more or less in agreement until that last line: being the lowest common denominator does not mean that you are necessarily stupid. Personally, I don't think the Wii is a poor product and many people who play CoD titles are fully aware of what they are purchasing and yet it provides them with enjoyment. If you want to convince people that they are victims of marketing, corporate regurgitation of the same basic game or that the pc offers greater potential, we can do this without insulting them, assuming that our objective is to cause them to pause before they hand over cash for the latest console port, rather than alienating them from what they might see as a small and inconsequential group of elitists.

Will DICE be any different? I sincerely hope so, but I have seen too many companies attempt to sell stuff merely on the basis of a name, where the quality of the original product/s is by no means reflected in the sequel. That said, I do have hope for BF3, a lot of hope, but not enough to pre-purchase this, or any other title.

Yeah I was stupid enough to preorder but I think thats one of last games Ill be building a gaming computer for so what the heck.
I thought about this post yesterday when I played BC2 on some glowing map and laughed that somebody is naive enough to believe in that kinda interview from a company that cant fix a bug which causes that glowing white screen issue for a LOT of people but will somehow revolutionize FPS gaming on PC. I still do hope a tiny bit but the fact is BF3 = BC2 without corridors + new maps.

i only pre-order if it gets me something - and not a free crap game i already own, etc. D2D does 20% off sales often now, and allows you to add some pre-orders to it. not all games, but it seems if the pub allows it, they do it.

I got bf3 limited, witcher 2, brink, (and shogun, bulletstorm, crysis2) all 20% off. now that's worth a pre-order imo as you don't know the sale will come back in time to play, and it takes a year for that price to drop again.

worth it, except for crysis2. greatly disapointed.
