Comparing Crysis on Very High on both DX10 Vista and DX9 XP, I see no difference. With Gear of War, maxed out with DX10 textures gives me like 12FPS on my 3870, so it's not even playable. Even all settings minimum with DX10 enabled, it doesn't go above 30. DX10 was a complete waste for me. Thank God I only spent $50 on Vista, or I'd be PISSED.

Well yeah, but dont you want to see how advanced the graphics are of DX10 compared to that of DX9? Thats all it is and that is what those pics indicate. They are comparing last gen to next gen. So stop trying to make it something its not.

Well, yeah, I want to see that! Thats why I say lets see how DX10 Crysis went farther than DX9 Crysis. And that is, needless to say, not far.

In my opinion DX10 is useless, epecially in gears of war, it only makes the game look shinier to me

I've always thought it has been an obvious marketing type thing. In my opinion, DX 10 was always a tool used by MS to push Vista. Furthermore, DX 10 was also used to push the graphics card market. It was a win win for everyone, but hey I guess that's why ATI and Nvidia flock to MS's OSs.

While I love all the little things DX 10 does, I just don't feel it was enough for me to consider it a worthy upgrade of DX 9. I voted accordingly.

Thats REALLY odd about Gears. My system ran it fine with DX10 and everything maxed out 1400x900. Maybe a driver issue?

Ran both Cat 8.2s and 8.3s. It's the main reason I don't want the game anymore. I can't run it for crap, which is ridiculous, because Crysis on Very High runs smoother than Gears does on its lowest in DX10 mode.

I thought Crysis was more high-end than Gear?

So, basically if you are building a new system (me), stay with DX9?

So because developers don't fully utilize the features DX10 offers yet it is DX10 that "sucks"? No matter how you put it, DX10 is capable of more than DX9. Give developers some time to get to know it. Early DX9 games don't look like the latest ones either.

    I agree with Dan. (it´s a first)....:toast:

first dx10 games have shown better graphic results in expense of fps, but this is not a reason to blame dx10 for. I believe that developers are still to discover and experiment with the new API, so we should be patient....

Its early days for DX10 yet. I mean its early days for dx10.1 asswell, which only indicates to me that dx10 is far off from being what it can be.

Only thing i think thats REALLY buggin us all is why a new OS had to be made to run dx10. I know why, did read the reviews on dx10 and xp but i dont totally agree. It just seems that MS used dx10 to sell Vista IMO!

I have to disagree here, DX10 has been out for well over a year now. The time of infancy has past and it's very clear that developers are not migrating to DX10 development only.

I think it could be to do with XP's limits in the graphics departments, one I can think of off the top of my head is XP's support for 2 AFR devices, where as vista supports 4.

i think M$ should release Xp with dx10 and satify the masses insted of forcing people to upgrade

Last time I checked DX9 was released end of 2002. And with things getting more complex every generation it takes longer and longer for new things to be fully utilized.

Without the advancements in CPU and GPU what we see out of DX9 now would not be possible. Therefore, DX9 games we see today did not became more complex on its own. And, from what I recall there were a few games that evolved during that time frame. Games like Max Payne 2 (April 2003), Far Cry (March 2004), Call of Duty (Sept 2003), Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Nov 2003), etc started the trend from DX8.1 to DX9.0.

From what I remember, when MS went to Directx 9.0b back in August 2003 I had to upgrade to a DX 9.0 video card. It was increasingly difficult to continue playing the games I liked with what I had at the time. In any case, that showed a trend that developers were migrating towards DX9 from DX8.1 within 1.5 years of DX9 release. Something I don't see with DX10.

the game devs are still figuring out how to best use it, yes it has been tagged onto a few games to give them that "dx10 lifstyle" apeal but as yet we have not seen its full effect.

tbh i think vi$ta is great for gaming, it makes older games look nicer and for me thats a +

go to some rocks in crysis and look at them in directx 10 medium settings then look at them in directx 9 high settings

clearly the direct x 10 textures are better in crysis

we need to start seeing fully developed directx 10 only games to see how big a leap it has been

i think it is MUCH nicer looking than directx 9 and the physics that are used are superior but it comes at a cost tho punishing hardware and pushing spec up for even medium settings

in the past hardware was high priced and software developers eased because everyone couldnt afford the latest and greatest now publishers and software developers are pushing tech to its limits because its so damn cheap compared to a few years ago

there is a difference between a full directx 10 game and a stupid patch that adds a few new features or better AA and AF we havnt even seen that many real direct x 10 games just a bunch of patches for directx 9 games

The link to the pictures is great. And SO MISLEADING.

This is not a DX10 to DX9 comparison, but an "all graphics features" compared to a "medium graphics" setting. DX10 is not responsible for the different cloudscapes... or sun streeks... etc.

Thats an apples and oranges comparison.

Judging from the Crysis pictures from gamespot:

Crysis looks very similar between XP very high quaility and Vista very high quaility. The colour palette is identical between the two, same thing with the sunlight and the level of detail in the vegetation and eveywhere else. The only difference I notice is that the shades from the rocks on the beach are slightly bigger with DX10.

Therefore, in Crysis, I wouldn't say dx10 has defeated dx9C yet. Seeing a few more shadows don't justify in my eyes spending a lot more on the latest graphics card, unless of course the latest card allow me to play at a better frame rate. And by better I don't mean being able to play at 90fps instead of 60fps, which is pointless, but more like playing 60fps instead of 30fps, where the gain is clearly beneficial.
