i didn't know it existed, but have now registered, thanks for the heads up!
Most are public domain, but some reserve the rights to it. Most of the time if thats the case, you just have to contact them for permission.
-link between gpu and tpu
-shared user databases to reduce hassle and make enforcing easier
-hosting game patchs downloads and updates.
I already posted this. http://forum.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=58882
can the signature image size be a little larger please? I'd like to use the one I have now if possible
Edit: thanks for the PM spearman914
Patches for older games yes, but for newer games I would happily place a bet on games having an Auto-patch service as standard in the foreseeable future.
Many games give you the option of either auto-patching from the launcher or downloading the patch for future installation (or if you have a slow internet connection where your gaming rig resides).
I think a patch database (or at least a patch download section) would be great.
I'd be happy to help manage the patch section.
The forums over there on Gamepowerup! are dead!
Yeah, it got off to a slow start. That's why we need people to help with getting more content, to draw more people to the site.
How about a Recent Patches section ?
Btw. this is new to me also.
ive known about for a while had a few looksies but wasnt really drawn to a member of 3 forums thats enough for know =/.
I think let walkthroughs, cheats, etc...be at those sites. What we need is something true to TPU...such as tweaks, custom config files, custom drivers, TPU mods, benchmarks, screenies, vids etc...
Also, as a said initially, when I click "games" sun-forum here at the TPU forums, I should be redirected to the forums of GPU.
Yep, something unique to GPU is definately in order, if it's to become popular and repeatedly visited. I wouldn't mind seeing user supported "mini-reviews" hell many users do their own hardware and game reviews right here on TPU on their own volition, if it's a bad review/post it will get reported and dealt with by proper staff and countermeasures.
Really what I would like to see is something along the lines of sections dedicated to genres, then subforums for titles, sure it would become huge and would have to be trimmed here and there, but really it could be a massive setup for cheats, tuning, updates, patches, reviews, guides, help, etc. We have something similar at our clansite, it works okay, but then again we only have about 15 games currently on tap. It's nothing amazing by any sorts, I forget what is the base of that forum, but the moderation isn't too bad to navigate for forum control and trimming.
No matter what we do, we must offer the user freedom to post their feelings on a game, whether they agree with our reviews or not, whether they feel there is a better way to get a task done, what mod is better, what mod is worth downloading, etc. There could be polls, we could have a GPU! Game of the Month, Game of the Year, something to get people to vote, talk, and decide which game(s) would deserve honors. It'd be nice to see the gaming section here on TPU eventually re-located to GPU!. Benchmarks I have no issue with as long as they're game based, leave the 3dmarks and such over this way of the divide.
There are many ways to go about it I suppose, and I don't want GPU! to be just any other gaming site out there, but I want the user/fan base to be a big part of what makes GPU! great, similar imo to what has helped make TPU! so strong, it's got the best community out there between staff and users, bar-none. Now the gaming community can get harsh, so can the hardware and oc community, they just go about it different ways. But we can find ways to get the community involved, maybe allow a competition for user reviews that could get posted as official gpu reviews, things like that.
On GPU! reviews, if you see what reviews are already there, my CoD4 review will be hitting a year old very soon here..I won't be updating it since I was playing it with the 1.3/1.4 patch at that time, the review will stand. But, one thing that gets me is that as the reviews are submitted, they are kind of boring, sure the format works good for the Tech stuff, but to me it does not justify a fresh face in the PowerUp! arena. Really I'd like to see the whole site take on a different scheme, something with a darker backgound, dark grey, gunmetal, black, etc, as-far-as design, my creativity sucks anymore, and I no longer have anything but the free paint programs out there anymore (paint.net primarily haha!). I get all sorts of ideas for the site, I just never write them down..I hope between suggestions here and to those that visit over there, we can all help meld GPU! into something very cool and worthy of keeping a tab on.
if you need news posted on GPU let me know.... if someone else isnt already doing it.
Look at this Porn Spammer on the Website!
The mods are tyring to take out the spam as fast as it comes in.
Those posts will not be there long if members report the posts.
When I saw it I was like wtf?
Spam accounts are coming in at about 1 every 5 minutes or so.
They are not posting that frequently but I do not know how if they are bots or real people.
Many times they are real people paid to spam forums to get past the checks.
Urlyin is doing an excellent job.
Right, but Urlyin is only up for so long. We need more mods to deal with that kind of crap.
I agree, Urilyn has definately stepped up and kicked some serious ass..the forums are so much cleaner and spam free in just a matter of a couple of days. SPAM had been building up for months, though there wasn't much for activity so it didn't matter so much. I also agree that as the GPU forums increase with activity both user and SPAM/BOT junk, I think he'll need some backup and we'll need more constant watching of the forums. Whether or not they enact Mods just for GPU! or if the mods over here want to pitch in, but at the moment we're ok. Later on, as I'm sure the staff is well aware of if GPU does in fact pick up on traffic of all natures (hopefully more supporters and viewers than anything! ), we'll have to get more moderation and staff for helping to keep the forums clean.
Hopefully GPU! becomes a very popular place! I feel it will, and I look forward to it!
How do you report post? Because I found another spammer that had already posted 8 times...
Video reviews et al?
In the post, on the bar that has the time stamp of the post, all the way to the right is a little red and white triangle icon. Click it and enter something like "Spam" in the message box.
I've been reporting posts for days as fast as I can, but now there are pages in the PC Games section that is nothing but spam posts, and now they are adding spam posts to real threads.
Oh noes .... we're DOOOOMED
Gratuitous bump. Come on people, GPU can be a great site. Spam is all cleaned up at the moment.
No, we don't have them. Honestly, trying to get the content approved by W1z would be a nightmare. I had enough trouble getting a written review posted there.
