I finally decided to give the new Sapphire Trixx a test run and see how far my FuryX can go. So I added the vcore all the way the the max +72mV. Set the core clock to 1200 and hit apply. System crashed during first test of Fire Strike Extreme, So I raised the fan speed to 100%(And WOW these gentle typhoon fans are crazy at full speed). Lowered the GPU to 1150. Sadly it still crashed on me during Fire Strike looping. After some testing it seems 1125 is the max for mine FuryX. In terms of HBM I can get as high as 575 rock solid. All this is achieved using a custom fan profile from Trixx. Have to keep the GPU near 65C to get the overclock stable.

In terms of performance gain, my stock FuryX with 4.2GHz 5820K scored 7390 in FSE. Raising up both GPU and HBM clock to 1125/550 will get the score to 7750. So less than 100MHz GPU overclock and 50MHz of HBM overclock gave me a mere 4.8% increase in performance. Really disappointing.

Another thing I noticed is when FuryX gets seriously hot after overclocking. So much for the unlocked voltage control.

I know my XFX Fury X's were rock solid at 1150 Core on stock voltage. However I have EK blocks on the with monster Aquacomputer Rad's keeping them nice and in the high 40's during gaming. I can't comment on the stock cooler, but with good cooling mine (both) were quite stable.

Yes! Now you mentioned it I am certain the temperature is the key! Lowering the target temp in Crimson or using custom fan profile does give a me a more stable OC, especially for the core.

The stock cooler is good enough for stock clock speed. Really cool and quiet. At the same time it feels like AMD has already got all available performance out of the Fiji XT core without sacrificing users' ears.

And I think that is the balance. The Fury X offers the best that Fiji can provide on that small PCB while maintaining a reasonable footprint with it's AIO cooler and staying quiet.

I will say I did not strive anything higher than 1150.

I don't understand why you're disappointed that Fury X overclocks terribly. Every review of the card has stated this. Have you been living under a rock for the last 6 months? Or did you buy the card without reading any reviews?

I know, right. And AMD sucks ass buy Nvidia! GO team Go, thanks for the input.
Assimilator's point is exactly right - it's a fact that Fury X is a poor overclocker so it shouldn't surprise anybody. Getting defensive about it won't help you and makes you look childish.

I think all the fanboys were hoping voltage unlocking and memory overclocking would make the cards not crap.

Too bad they are just garbage.

They certainly aren't garbage, but they are pretty damn far from an overclockers dream as some AMD dude claimed.

Oh come on. Just want some friendly discussion regarding my findings of overclocking my Fury X. Not again with all the shit and butt hurt response. Can we get back on track?

I think everyone has moved to OCN to have legit conversations on AMD. Tpu, hard, are full of nothing but fan boys. If you haven't realized, you can't open a thread with "AMD" in the title without it instantly being high jacked. See you over there?

FWIW, I learned my BIOS flashing and modding at OCN but its also got its share of idiots. Please stay in TPU and share your Fiji experiences. You can always ask the mods the 'infract' people pissing on your party.
I think we lack a good software modding area for gfx, especially BIOS based. Anybody without any sound advice about Fiji over clocking in this thread should just fuck right off. Let people experiment and experience without bringing irrelevant bullshit into the thread.

Well, it may also be the VRM temps causing issues. There is probably a mix of things revolving around temps that keep it from being stable on top of everything else. If you can check temps of other parts of the card and see what can be done to help.

One thing ill say, I think @Cybrnook2002 is pretty far from a fanboy. I mean he changes cards quite often and he's using 980ti's currently...

There is the possibility that Fiji is similar to Maxwell. Maxwell scales terribly with added voltage unless it's sub zero. Something to do with the extra heat causing problems for stability. It needs cold (less 'vibration') states to operate. Fiji might be running at the same levels, therefore voltage increases might not help without substantial exotic cooling.

I just have a Tri-X Fury and I have not been anywhere close to disappointed with my performance so far to even think about overclocking yet. I have a 144Hz IPS so I have the legs to go with it

As I said, increasing fan speed seems to greatly boost the card's headroom in terms of GPU overclocking. I will keep GPU-Z open next round and observe what's happening.

As for the comment about fanboy I was talking about Assimilator, not Cybrnook2002. It was all civilized discussion until Assimilator showed up.

Yes, its probably a mix of core temp and VRM temp that could allow for even better temps. I think lower temps could help get 1200mhz, but I just believe the hard part of cooling comes down to the VRM without having a waterblock. You could try buying some more heasinks and seeing if you can get the temps down on that area (Though you would need some more airflow to help on the card itself). I am just thinking of other possibilities as I have a friend who purchased a pair of those XFX R9 Fury's and he was able to achieve some decent overclocks on the pair (I was just guessing maybe the whole card having that massive cooler had some help on the VRM and such). I believe he stated both hit 1175 but ill have to ask him.

Yes I was not aiming that at you of course :p It was certain others I was aiming that last comment at.

I tried 100% fixed fan speed. It was horrible. At the same time I can finally get to 1150/575 stable through FSE looping. So temperature is the key. This AIO cooler is not doing a great job in terms of keeping the FuryX temp under control.

I will look into custom water cooling if I have the time in the future. For now a 4.2G 5820K and a mildly overclocked FuryX is more than enough to meet my needs.
