Right now im in the middle of overclocking my new q9550, but since my motherboard is being a pos at OCIng im finding myself doing an slow & careful OC, which requires a lot of rebooting. I have x3 Hdds connected to the MB and idk know if its healthy for them to be turned on/off so frequently.

-Btw im just trying to get my PC to boot with set clocks, so i dont need to boot to OS yet.

Never had a problem with this.

Also, if you're not booting and stress testing these OCs, I'm not sure what the point is. POST-stable OC's are meaningless. If you can at least make it to the desktop then you've got something.

Well yeah, right now im just trying to get pass the BIOS, so i could at least know im heading the right direction. After i pass the BIOS then i can start doing a deeper OC for stability tests in the OS.

There are ways to test in DOS with absolutely no need for an HDD. Something along the lines of UBCD or even the Solaris Utility DVD have lets say memtest and linx tests on the ISO.

Don't worry, though on/off cycles for a HDD aren't great, it'd take 1000's of cycles to do any damage.

If you have any critical data being written during an OC failure/reboot - that would be the concern.

The reboots are no problem - possible BSODs and sudden reboots while the HD is writing any crucial data could be a problem. While I never disconnected the HDs when oc'ing, it can not hurt to do so. But if you do no serious work while trying out the limits, I see no danger.
