I also use google, I was using 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.5 but not all site would pull up.

8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 work for everything so far.

    Have you tried dnsbench?

I run my own local DNS that sources from the 3 fastest DNS servers avg'd from dnsbench and namebench (which btw google has never been fastest for me from either bench).

See if yours are the fastest with this:

    http://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm

I use my ISPs for my primary(Comcast) and Google 8.8.8.8 for my secondary. My ISPs DNS server is the fastest for me.

I just switched my, while my ISP's DNS servers were the fastest, they returned a search page for addresses they couldn't find, which annoyed me every since I switched to Comcast.

I now use 2 Sprint servers as my first and second DNS servers, and a Google server(8.8.4.4) as my third. The google one is still slower than some others, but I know it is totally reliable.

my ISP is always fastest... and like newtekie, i hate when the DNS servers take you to search pages (which is why i dont use openDNS)

My ISPs DNS server takes me to a crappy search page, and thats another reason why I don't use OpenDNS. I do use them for a school I administrate for, simply because of web filtering. But seems like tier 1 ISP have the fastest DNS servers.
