I think this title mod thing is a great idea. I hate seeing the titles all messed up when people say like "OMG HALP ME." I am glad that some of us will be able to change to something like "Water Cooling Leaking Issue" instead.

Edit: And yes I volunteer if needed.

Maybe these new types of Mods should be called "Title Nazis." It works on so many levels, one being the forum was originally German / English mix.

Having an English major for a mother, I choose my words carefully and check spelling always. W1zzard, other people's misspellings don't generally bother me, but I certainly notice them—I can and will help if you like. As for changing vague thread titles, some ground rules might be necessary but anyone with common sense should be able to choose an appropriate title change.

As for my volunteering—I'm not a very senior member here and others may be present more than I am, so there are probably better choices. I don't have any thirst for more power.

At any rate, this could definitely make TPU a better forum.

I would rather let users edit thier own thread titles. They can edit thier posts, so why not edit thier thread titles? I've never understood why users can't do this in all my 5+ years of being on forums. The only thing I can think of is some clever miscreant waits until he gets some posts in his topic, then radically changes the thread title, but that makes no sense and nobody would do that... would they?

that makes sense - and moderators can fix up whatevers leftover.

This would also solve some issues in the B/S/T section when users add more items to a sale.
    hat says thanks.

I have changed my own thread titles before. Am I inadvertently hacking?

I thought maybe it was a permission given automatically after a certain number of posts. Or maybe it's just if you do it within a certain period of time?

there is a grace period to edit thread titles, the reason it is not infinite is that several bad things(tm) can be done when users can edit their threads for infinite periods of time

The quality of thread titles has definately improved recently, so this looks to have been a triumph *insert portal song here*.

Thanks to the mods/title police for their hard work :toast:

    i swear i'm fixing like 5 a day now.

like that other one "what is antialiasing" and yet the question was actually about MSAA vs SS AA - and ofc, so many people answered the thread title, not the post itself.

    It's alive, It's ALiiive!!

Any chance of letting us change the title of our own threads in the BST section please?. I think it's about time ;)
Maybe you could restrict it to only people with 250+ posts?

The reason that this is not a good idea is that the BST threads show up on the main site as recent posts. It would not bode well for the site if an irate member changed the thread title to "Eat !@$ and Die all you A$$ho%@s".

We will gladly change a BST title if you PM any one of us, as all mods can change titles in all sections.

I've just seen this thread and I'd like to do this.

Yeah, these errors bug the hell out of me too. I'm on here a lot, am in good standing and have very good spelling and grammar, so I think I'd do a good job of it. I will subscribe to the RSS feed to make sure I see the threads.

It would be an honour to be given this responsibility and give more back to TPU. :respect:
