Hi guys.

just wondering since my friend is building his new pc and goes full amd on both the cpu and gpu and mobo.

does the ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Professional need a bios update for the amd fx 8320?

if you're wondering this is the entire system. Converted to US dollar from our currency.

Processor: AMD FX 8320 = 7,300 (165.18$)
Motherboard: Asrock Fatal1ty 990FX Professional = 8,150 (184.41$)
Memory: corsair vengeance 16gb 4x4gb 1600mhz cl9 = 6,500 (147.08$)
GPU: Sapphire R9-280X Toxic = 16,200 (366.56$)
SSD: samsung evo 120gb = 5,200 (117.66$)
HDD:
ODD: (samsung any)850 (19.23$)
PSU: corsair ax 650 80plus gold = 7,000 (153.39$)
Chassis: Bitfenix Shinobi Window XL ATK (black or white) = 6,800 (153.86$)
CPU Cooler: h100i = 4,900 (110.87$)

Total = 62,900 (1423.24$)

he has an old phenom II 960T BE he's using right now before we buy on saturday on our local store so just wanted to know if the mobo needs a bios update. since after looking at the asrock site it says that the 8320 is supported at p1.70 bios or so I understand it.

Also it is said on the asrock site here. http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/Fatal1ty 990FX Professional/?cat=CPU

that the 960T is supported by bios p1.60 (if the 990fx has a lower bios bios version then we would have difficulties on flashing it and have to get it flashed by the seller or supplier).

It's 990FX, if it didn't support an 8320 out of the box I'd be worried. Shouldn't need a BIOS update, but sometimes it doesn't hurt to have a stable BIOS :)

I recently got a new 990FXA-GD65 MSI mainboard and it had surprisingly the newest bios on. Bios from 09/26/2013. That board is taged with Windows 7 ready but it's up to date. Not bad MSI. Under Windows 8.1 I even didn't have to install any drivers. The FX-8350 works fine, but MSI is not the same company as Asrock I know.

The only chips you might have a problem with would be the 9xxx chips but since you're going with an 8320, shoudn't have a problem.
