Does it make sense to choose 4GB GTX 760 over 2GB version?

Hi, I need to purchase new GPU quite soon and I was planning to wait for GTX 960 but it seems, that it was delayed to 2015 and I can't wait that long. I was thinking about GTX 760 instead. Not that long ago I would just go for the 2GB version, but it seems like games are starting to require more and more VRAM, even for 1080P (I play in 1920x1200, but I don't think it makes a big difference).

I don't fully understand how VRAM is utilised though. Will simply having more VRAM allow for higher quality textures, or does the GTX 760 lack TMUs to utilise it anyway? Is amount of VRAM and TMUs all that matter here?

I live in Poland, so US prices don't really apply and I need a really quiet card (I checked reviews for R9 280X models, but they don't satisfy me in terms of noise/temperature). I was looking at MSI GTX 760 Gaming. MSI R9 270X Gaming (also 2 or 4GB) is the cheaper, but also weaker alternative.

The consideration is whether a 760 is powerful enough for the games you play at 1080p. If yes, then the 4GB can only help you. However if you're looking to save money, I'd say the extra 2GB at that resolution is negligible.
As for quiet cards, that's down to the third party cooler and the BIOS fan settings.

I recently bought a GTX-760 4GB EVGA with the ACX 2.0 cooler. I got it refurbished from Newegg and saved about $55.00 US from the normal price.
It's working well for me.
I'm not sure how much of it's RAM I'm utilizing with my games, but I'm glad to have the extra on standby for future games. They're beginning to code games to take advantage of it.

If you can afford the extra RAM, I say get it.

Hi mate,

If you can stretch the budget a little I say go the GTX 970.

Otherwise the 2GB GTX 760 will be fine over the 4GB model.

Well GTX 970 is almost twice the price of the GTX 760 2GB in Poland, so that's not really an option. If I could afford that I wouldn't be asking this question now. I will wait few more days and if no new info on GTX 960 appears, I'll get the GTX 760 2GB. I think the price of 760 was supposed to go down, but I haven't really seen that happen, so maybe the price cut needs time to reach Poland as well.

if you run multiple displays or using high texture or aa/af you could consider 4gb version since bigger memory would help your card

I use "cheap"AA methods like SMAA and I like to have AF X16. I only have a single 1920x1200 screen.

If the price of both card is the same (chances are less that 1%) then go for the 4GB version, and if the difference is more than 10 euros I Would just get the 2 GB version.

^ that, I would only seriously consider 4 GB on that card if you have plans to SLI them.

I don't know, with more and more titles going 64-bit, the more memory the better (video and system). It's cheaper to get 4 GiB now than upgrade to 4 GiB later.

If the 4Gb version is on sale and the same price or $10 more then yes by all means. The MSI GTX760 4Gb right now is $199 after rebate

So yes it makes sense if its only $10 more or the same price

With shipping to Poland it's going to cost 1021 PLN. I can buy it for 1029 PLN here so I'm not going to benefit from this deal. Thanks for posting it anyway.

2GB version costs 830 PLN and comes with Borderlands TPS code which I can probably sell for around 50 PLN (I have no interest in playing this game). In the end it's a 31% increase in price so I don't think it's worth it. It also gets me into used GTX 770/R9 290 teritory, but both are too loud for me (I checked reviews for various non reference versions and I don't think hey have enough temperature room to reduce tthe fan speed). GTX 970 is currently over 1500 PLN and is simply to expensive. I'm afraid GTX 960 isn't coming after all either :(.

2gb is enough for gtx760 under 1080p. 4gb is not a good choice or u can choose r9 280x if u have enough money for 4gb gtx760

Mostly I will say for a single card, buying a 4gb GTX 760 is not necessary especially at 1080p because the GPU will scale off on performance well before the RAM wall takes a hit.

If the price is around 10 bucks difference, I would go for it but anymore than that I would say just get the 2gb model.
