DVI splitter?

I am looking for something that can take the DVI output from an add-in board and split the signal into a larger desktop (like 2048 x 768). Would something like this work:

I've heard you can do this with DVI, but I'm not having any luck finding details on google.

I think that is typically used for cloning a second monitor. Something like that would be useful for a small control station monitor, and a larger display monitor. Or for dual monitors used for training purposes.

I need something to support dual monitors, but the crappy HP computers we're using disables the onboard video whenever we install a separate card. I tried adding a PCI card and it works intermittenly.
