Will a DVI signal convert to a VGA with any kind of degrade, except the difference between DVI and VGA.

I think dvi maps pixel for pixel, and vga gets converted to digital in the monitor, DVI is better than vga, noticably imo.

I have a HF259H monitor and I can attest that the monitor's VGA port is quite noisy. When the screen goes black I can see these little jets of noise flashing across the screen. At first I thought it was some fast scrolling text but I figured out it was actually just noise.

I've since read that noisy VGA ports on newish monitor's are quite common.

You'll see no difference then. Just make sure the card you buy comes with a DVI to VGA adapter (virtually all still come with one if they don't have a VGA port built in).

you can always pick one up for a few dollars. I've usually got 2-3 of these lying around my house
