4890 is still DX 10.1 like your 4850; for DX 11 you will have to wait for HD5xxx-Series, correct me if I'm wrong.

Some people think that because ATI cards have a tesselation unit they are DX11 so that's where all the confusion is.

Ati has already said the first card they release will be a mainstream one so my guess is the HD5650

Where did they say that the mainstream card is the one that launches first?

Up till now there's no pure DX10 games yet. When i mean pure, i meant that only DX10 cards allowed. No disabling DX10 or stuff.

Don't count on any more DX10 games. It has obviously turned out to be a complete flop. They really might as well of called it DirectX 9d.

    TBH, I'd guess a HD5850 . . .

ATI typically release the middle-range card of the upper-end series first, then followed by the primary upper end card, then a whole bunch of the middle and economy cards.

    e.g. HD4850, HD4870, HD4670 (IIRC), HD4650, etc.
    HD3850, HD3870, . . .
    HD2900, HD2600, HD2400, . . .
    X1900, X1950 XT, X1950 PRO, X1900 GT, . . .
    MKmods says thanks.

Agreed. And I'm pretty sure if they stick with the series they are going with, the HD 5xxx series will be next.

There will never be a DX10 only game until DX9 and current consoles are phased out. It would be very stupid for a company to not make older versions or they'd lose out on a lot of money.

and Crysis was the first game built with full DX10 support and allowed DX9 coding for the masses or they would of only sold a handful of games. I think most high end games (not ported from a console) are usually fully DX10 supported. it sux nVidia didn't support DX10.1 like ATI did as a lot DX10.1 code is in DX11.

I just pray they get DX11 right and MS gets better quality control over drivers or no one's going to port anything as it is just too costly to have new games not working properly because of all the incompatibilities usually caused from bad drivers. I read a MS article at the beginning of this year saying the current drivers have to be certified for Windows 7 as well and is why so many people have been having such good success with Win 7 so far. I just final release runs as good and doesn't get bloated down on release day. I just read today that MS will release an anti-virus suite tomorrow for beta testing. I'm sure that will slow things down if it becomes part of Windows.

anyway, here's to a speedy release of DX11 cards and even speedier DX11 support.

    it's a shame as well nVidia didn't support DX10.1 . . .

and sadly, the games that do support 10.1, ATI cards tend to perform much better than nVidia's

Windows 7 is supposed to be way better than Vista, so I am sure that DX 11 will catch on much better than 10 did.

Last i read, Nvidia's DX11 cards were going to possibly be delayed till Q1 2010, some say maybe Q4 2009 if things go right and a re-spin isnt needed; and unless they're really keeping it hush hush that's when i'd expect to see and start hearing more about the GT300. And apparently ATI RV8X0 cards are planned for a launch in july according to nordichardware.

well there's also the fact that RV870 is just an upgrade from RV770. GT300 doesn't relate to GT200 at all, it doesn't use SPU's from previous chip designs, it incorporates a new approach of using ALU's and MIMD(multi intruction multi data), not SIMD(single instruction multi data).
    here's a good read:GT300 infor

So nvidia has or had(not sure yet :p) a lot of work compared to ATI, who from what i understand is altering and improving an existing architecture. GT300 is a new architecture.
