The E5200 setup si definitly faster but the 780G setup can handle Phenom II for future upgrades.. Idk what to do.. They are the same price..Also the 5000+ has a unlocked multiplier for easy OCing

    What would you guys do?

E5200 and the P45 chipset should make for a good OC, if the other board can support Phenom II and you want it, then go for that the Phenom II's are a good performer for the price, but as for OCing im not sure.

Considering they are about as powerful as Intels Core 2's, the Phenom II's should last a fairly long time, keep in mind tho that AMD is coming out with AM3 soon(Phenom II with DDR3 RAM) which may or may not pull ahead of the Core 2's, so you may want to wait for that. Gaming wise the Phenom II's are great and should hold up there for a while considering there prices are cheap. If you where looking for a really good photoshop machine or encoding rig(or even gaming) i would say go Core i7 as it has alot of power behind it. Phenom II is a great CPU imo. Intel maybe a bit easier to OC tho.

Both are good choices but Intel is a somewhat better choice, IMO. An e5200 is a better chip than the 5000BE and will overclock better. The upgrade path for both platforms is basically the same though, with either one you can get a quad later on & Phenbom 2 is just as good as the lower end Intel quads and overclocks almost as well. DDR3 is not worth it on either platform, IMO, especially if you are building on the cheap, with AMD the results with DDR3 vs DDR2 are very close. I think it should depend on your personal preference (AMD or Intel) and/or budget: just go with whatever is cheaper if money is tight. If money is not an issue id pick Intel.
    CDdude55 says thanks.

e5200+P45 wins now but for upgrade sake 5000BE+780G is about a million times better and AMD already announced at least when they 1st come out AM3 chips will work on AM2
