wow rhino, you are just full of adult wisdom in this thread ;)

in all honesty, no the repercussions aren't THAT bad - and i'm not complaining or asking for anything for free - but how does this make sense to you? first off, what possible reason could they have for making codes expire?

i'm sorry, is this not a tech forum meant to discuss these type of actions? they are a major player that just made a ridiculous move, and your wisdom is to just wait until it affects you, and then call the company. politely.

well thanks rhino, i never would have thought of that ;) but the fact as i see it, is it should never come to that. i can accept having to place a call to support months or years after, to get more installs or whatever - but immediately after you bought a game to get the code in the SEALED box to work? that makes absolutely no sense. i truly cannot understand why you would defend this decision.

don't worry, im not defending that decision because i don't fully understand it either. my point was to put things into perspective. EA is aware of the issue so it doesn't sound like foul play. now that we are aware of it we can take appropriate action (personal responsibility). apart from that, we can't do anything other than send EA a nasty email, in which case nothing will change, or we can stop buying their games if somebody feels strongly about this game code mess. i just dont see the point of getting upset over it. EA is a huge company, naturally there will be errors on their end which they will fix. that is life.

good ;)

except, i think error is too generous. mistake. that's not what this is. when a multi-billion dollar corporation makes any kind of action it's out of deliberate forethought. whether right or wrong, it's not an accident - it is intentional.
it's not like they tried to save a kitten and dropped a limb on someones car. they make unnecessary changes that no one understands and the only effect of which is to further infuriate legitimate customers. i call that an asshole move, not an error.

actually, you would be surprised how little thought probably went into deciding when game codes expire. larger corporations are very hard to manage. and to come up with a policy about game codes considering the 100s of factors involved and judging by the reps response, they probably just overlooked one or didnt think it an issue.

fair enough - one more point:
i am exponentially less likely to be forgiving for each $60 i've wasted with a given company ;)

no , i can't disagree. i guess there is a good chance it actually is a mistake - but i STILL believe, when your mistakes can negatively affect SO MANY people, that elevates them at least a little bit. no this won't be a big deal, i rarely buy any retail pc games so personally it shouldn't affect me... but it still ticks that nerve that makes me say "screw you EA"

quite a different situation athlonite. AMD is not a publisher, they are not SELLING these games. they give a free code with a card purchase, i can understand issues arising with that.
however when you are the publisher, when it's your ONLY job to distribute the games to the consumers without issue, that's a pretty big issue.
