    Helloooo!

So, with the Beta 1 coming up on the 29th, who here on TPU is going to be playing?

I'm interested in teaming up with some of you if possible, I'd like to try some group play since I've been solo'ing since the alpha.

So, lemme know or just chat here about the game if you like. :)

I've been playing a little of the current beta. I really like the direction this game is heading, I do wish the yaw was a little faster, but it's not a game ender for me. So far I am super impressed with what is there. I suck, but it's fun! I just hooked up my Logitech 3D Extreme flight stick...it's been a blast!

I also have a TPU Space Sim Appreciation thread we can expand into conversation about this, Star Citizen, Evochron, X3, Freespace, Wing Commander and beyond! :toast:

What is this you speak of Erocker. Linkage would help. If the graphics are good I be your space bitch once I beat metal gear.

    Heresy.

I recall playing Elite on an Acorn Electron in the 80's. It was the first proper space game with flying across the galaxy and trading to increase wealth and make your ship better. Beam lasers FTW. And anti-matter missiles.

Docking was bitch though, until you buy your fist docking computer which I'm sure was about 1000 credits.

Just watched trailer. It IS Elite. Even the space station is the same shape. I saw a Cobra too. Aww man, I'm in love.

    I'll pre-order it methinks.

I want to, I was following Elite just after backing SC. Elite looks far more like what I want in terms of a Freelancer follow on. Always wanted Freelancer from SC, but it looks more multiplayer-orientated. That being said, Elite looks like it's going to be one of my go to games. After playing in the SC alphas, I'm not going to bother playing it until release of squadron 42. Gameplay and control-wise it's not for me. After playing a demo of Elite, I'm totally digging the feel of the controls. It's the perfect blend between Freelancer and X3 (X Rebirth does not exist).

unfortunately Beta access to Elite is ridiculous.

    How so? :(

    I just bought it :D

EDIT: Ah. I just paid £35 for the game - not the £50 beta. WTF?

Oh, it's changed. The beta used to be £250.

I shelled out the 150$ for the premium beta and I enjoyed every single passing second since it started...

I admit the 150$ for a beta is a tad ridiculous in itself, but I have waited 20 years for such a game, ever since the original X-Wing.

Could I have waited another 6 months for retail? Perhaps.

No. Screw that. I waited enough, I had the dough and I had the will.

Plus, they had my money the instant I read about 1:1 scale galaxy....

And it is truly a wonderous game.

    No regrets.

Well for those that don't want to spend $$$$$, try Evochron Mercenary. Has a free demo to try, and it's only $30. MP, seamless space, only one loading screen, pretty damn epic imho, could use a little more to do, but the handling is a true challenge and is a fun challenge at that...makes the combat more entertaining imho...it's not a run n' gun kinda sim.

I still play more of it than Elite and SC beta's combined.

For those that shell out for the Elite or SC beta(s)...you shouldn't be disappointed either...both are very very good.

well to be fair to SC, it is still at least a year or two away from release and is just as MP focused as Elite. ;)

I have both of these games. and want to purchase Limit Theory. http://ltheory.com/
All three games have different styles and gameplay.

    Count me in Erocker.
I'll have to hop on TS sometime. I haven't been in the TPU one in a while.

Sweet! New teamspeak is: tputeamspeak.com pw: W1zzard

I'll have a channel on it setup for Elite.

I was hoping for some carnage at Aulin sometime today but haven't ran into anybody bringing the "apocalypse" that I've been hearing about on reddit. :\

Is this one of those MMOs where you have to spend 8 hours a day playing it to have any chance of surviving encounters with other people?

I have very little intention of playing either SC or E: D as an MMO multiplayer. I don't mind playing on small servers dedicated to members, but I'm not looking for another Eve experience. Too rife with chinese farmers and children/unemployed farming 8 hours a day, and I have no hope of keeping up with that level of play.

In my opinion an MMO game where trolls will be innumerable, having a ship that you've spend days if not months working towards, and then losing it permanently because of "ship insurance", is not what I'm looking for. Quite simply the community is so shite I have no intention of playing with other people I don't know. I don't mind arcade style arena play, and a universe affected by players. But PvP in an otherwise Triple X game is not the kind of expansion upon existing space sims I'm looking for. I speak about both SC and E: D on this.

This is what I'm about too. I don't plan on doing much beyond that in SC or E:D. I'm back to Evo Merc for now though.

Elite TPU teamspeak? Awesome, I'm in.

As for me, I completely put aside SC in favor of Elite for the moment. I will probably do like RCoon and wait for a full fledged release of Squadron 42.

In the meantime, with my Lasik all healed up, I can't wait to get my DK2 to try Elite out in glorious 1080p, low latency & 6dof. It's already pretty damn awesome with the DK1. :rockout:

I feel like a kid and Christmas is right around the corner. :D
