so last night i went over to a friends house. we were messing around with his nitro rc car and what not. then we got on his computer. i started looking at specs and my jaw dropped. he had one of the first dual core intels out. the comp was built summer last year and is running a 2.8ghz dual pentium D. its a sony viao prebuilt completly stock. other specs:1 gig 3/4/4/10 ram, ati x300 128mb, media center. this thing was so fast it was crazy... now we are going to get him either a x1600xt or somthing to replace the x300. i was quite suprised though that on css i could run 1024/768 max visuals inclueding hdr at around 50fps average. this thing blew my mind. we opened it up and he said the sales person said it was water cooled so i was quite curious. turns out there is a quad heatpip from the cpu to a radiator at the back of the case. jeez the thing is nice. oh and he got it for around $1400 @best buy.

A year ago, for $1,400 your friend would have built a gaming rig at least twice as fast (or 4x faster considering that POS video card), instead of buying a prebuilt system, but hey, whatever floats your boat :) ... I guess :wtf:

um actually all he has to do is put in a decent video card and hes great. he went for that system cuz it was aimed as a workstation not its 2000 dollar more gaming counterpart. he just didnt know how to upgrade the video card for cheaper then what best buy was offering.

well his ma wanted a comp so of course he wanted her to get a fast one. mainly looking for longevity in the pc world and that+sony brand = a hefty price. but its a very good setup as with the cooler on it it never went past 40c. he was planning on gaming with it but doesnt currently have to money for the purchase of said games. the other things with it were a sony brand media center remote a 21" lcd and logitech z-5450 speakers. its got a dvd 16x and a dvd 12x burner. and btw when i say fast i mean windows performance not gaming performance idiots. oh and somthing weird, when i was playing around with source i was running it at 1024x768 (due to video card) but when i turned on 16af and 6aa i noticed somthing odd. average framrates went up in the source video test deal. i ran it several times and its consistant. any idea how to explain?

Dude, no need to call anyone an idiot, as I meant to say with "whatever floats your boat", if your friend thinks he has made a good investment, and you are impressed by how fast word or excel loads, then good for you both, just don't expect us to dance in circles of joy by hearing the specs of that POS and how much he paid for it

haha i wasnt calling anyone here an idiot seriously jeez.. what i was talking about with speed is encoding music and transcoding music. just because you have the money or a job that funds your computer hobby doesnt mean the rest of us 16 year olds can get our hands on newer hardware unless its free or from our parents. i dont expect anyone to dance about this rig i was just posting it cuz i knew it was better then the run of the mill prebuilt. i wasnt expecting everyone to bow down and worship the damn thing. but i do know that save the video card that rig is faster then yours while also being more quiet. as i said before it was meant to be a htpc not a gaming rig.
