Hello, iv been ocing my 780s for awhile and theres one thing that allways bugs me and now i tought id try fix it or atleast know why so i could oc them instead of getting 980s. if someone is wondering i play in 1440p.

the picture below

ss+(2014-09-19+at+01.04.09).jpg
why isnt it stable higher than this even tho its not reached its TDP?
i havent put the volts higher than outside this image, i do have the classified tool for it but is the tool really needed to get to 100% TDP?

The most I could ever get out of 1.212v was around 1207mhz core stable. I think beyond the 1250 mark you're going to need more volts than 1.212 (which you get from the overvolting option in EVGA Precision).

Also chip lottery.

hm, ok thanks but isnt it supposed to autotune it up to 100% TDP automaticly if temps are low enaugh?, the classified tool is set on auto.

Edit: i just tried setting overvolting in precision and it turned out with valley crashing so it wasnt stable, but one of the gpus got turned up to 1333mhz on 75% tdp

It automatically boosts to a certain degree, yes, but not farther than you've got it currently. I wouldn't automate any overclock over 1250.

i didnt understand the OC in precision at first, but now i can set it higher, not used to the new precision.

did you use a custom bios?, i really wants to have it automatically do it

Yeah it was a little odd for me too, in the end I gave up after hitting my stability on air :D

EDIT:I didn't use a custom BIOS, no, but @the54thvoid used the skynet one or whatever, and can probably assist with classifieds better than I can.

Allright, thanks

heres 120+ i managed it but there was one artifact during valley run, is that concerning?, it was a one frame artifact

Damn, that's a nice OC there. As for artifacting, that's generally a good time to tone down the clocks or up the voltage (providing you can safely supply the voltage and cool the card)

I have a 780ti Classy and have used the Classified tool for a few benches. The Classy tool over rides the other OC tools. So if you pop in 'x' value in the Classy Tool voltage, it doesn't matter what you put it at in precision - the Classy Tool will over ride it. I also run (as every classy owner should) with a custom BIOS that pretty much removes the TDP limit. If you are not on a custom BIOS the Classy tool is pretty much useless, the stock Kepler voltage limit will apply.

Also, when I use the auto feature on the classy tool, it keeps my voltage pegged at 0.8v, which causes massive instability in all benches and gaming. Using the auto feature (for me on a custom BIOS) isn't even really an option.

As a final point, the Classy tool may indicate a certain voltage but without reading the actual voltage using a multimeter on the read points of the PCB, the Classy Tool will put a higher voltage in than is stated (i believe because of Vdroop).

FTR, I use water cooling on my card and that keeps the VRM's cooler than if it were just on air. Many people say 1.25-1.3v max on air, 1.4 ish on water but again, actual volts, not what the Tool says.

A Classified card is pretty much useless without water and a custom bios. Looks pretty but really, better off with an MSI Gaming card. It makes me giggle to think how many people may have bought the Kingpin Edition and didn't bother with water, LN2 or even a custom bios....... Even I'm a noob when it comes to proper overclocking but hey, I've been to 1.4v and a shade under 1400Mhz on water. For my hobbyist level, that's enough.

EDIT - judging by your temps - you are under water. And that must be a custom BIOS?

EDIT 2 - run heaven (not valley) and see what you get (do the extreme bench at 1080p)

thanks
i did a benchmark on 1,5v 1450+ mhz on my 780s and my 3930k that i gave Maban on 5ghz.
http://www.3dmark.com/3dmv/4880674

but yeah ill try tone mhz down

Edit: yes im under liquid

Edit: this is the highest iv gotten thats stable really, my vrm doesnt allow more if not to 1,7v

i should eventually do it again with my new cpu and ram, i would beat my old score.
1,5v really isnt that bad the classy vrm can handle it without damaging the gpu
