And farm-life is worse. It's just as repetitive, and thanks to the lack of siblings or multiple children (one child rule), just as lonely. The bi-product of one child rule is a self-centric society. You have just one kid, and the last thing you want is for the kid to end up like you, so you do everything you can to send that kid to at least go work in a factory (away from the farm life).

What a joke! The only thing first class about Apple is it's profit margin's  I haven't seen this much propaganda since Herr Goebbels was in charge of the "news", no offence to you bta or anyone else. The veil has been lifted off of Apple and the world now see's them for what they truly are. They can grasp at straw's all they want, i still don't think it'll be enough to save the ship

All of these major corporation's need a wake up call.

I guess it's all relative as they say. I would like a comparison of Foxconn to say a GM or Honda auto plant in Canada or the US.
As for farm life in Northern Ontario, there isn't much of one since we are buried in snow 6 months of the year.
A co-worker just came back from northern India and he is glad to be back breathing 'clean' air and not tripping over garbage in the streets.
    (no offense Btarunr)

Either it's actually good or it's crap, but either way be prepared for Apple products to double in price.

Where are you to get that weather? Hudson's bay! It has been relatively mild weather compared to what we were accustomed to

Maybe he's trying to say that although condition's in India may not be very good, and possibly quite similar to China, they are not jumping off building's to "ease" the pain

This outsourcing and moving factories overseas is what killed/is killing the North American Economy. Go right ahead Apple, do your Inspection and perhaps you can give these hard working people a pay increase to $1.50 per hr up from $1.00

In rural China, you can have two children if the first one is a girl(yeah that's gender discrimination right there). More if you know people or know who to pay.
Still, even without siblings there are plenty of people you know by name around you. It's just not the same in humongous and highly organized factories like Foxconn.
Construction work is more dangerous and much more demanding, but from what I heard the pay is very good(used to be horrid though).
But Chinese people vastly prefer the academic route, so most parents demand their children to excel at school and go to a good university just so they can be educated degree-holding unemployed bums until finally settling for crap jobs that have nothing to do with what they studied.

I recognize that people I don't even know existed are suffering so that my money have more purchasing power. But my heart is not bleeding, I'm an insensitive fuck.:ohwell:

I found out, these workers make on average $8 per hour, but within that hour they have an expectation to pump out a set amount of devices.

    Still shitty pay.

If they were paid not-"shitty" pay, an iPad would cost $2000, if not more.

No they don't. They make ~2500CNY a month if they work extra hard/are senior workers. Not bad considering they have poor education, free meals, free inter-facility transport and free dorm.
You are welcome to work in a grocery store for 1700CNY a month AND have to pay for food, shelter and transportation.

Not 100% sure, all I know is my source stated they are making on average $8/hr.
If they were making them in North America, it would cost 110% the same as it costs today. The issue is called pure Corprate Greed. Instead of making 300% profit (North American Factories), lets make 600% profit (Overseas Factories) but charge people the same amount of money for the product.

What you get is a cheaper quality product costing you a lot of money. I do admit though, tbat quality has increased within China but still is far off vs. North American.

Apparently the solution to that is for Apple to stop making profits...

Honestly most of the posts in this thread seem to be coming from naive schoolboys. There's too many posts to respond to individually, but the cream of the moron crop is the poster who seems to remember Goebbels propaganda. Btarunr seems to be the only adult in the thread. Edit : That's unfair, there's a couple of others swimming in the sea too :)

This precisely, the price of a product is as high as people are ready to pay for it. For a corporation, a drop in production cost alone is never a reason to lower the product price. It can only justify it in a fight for market share.

LOL That was me refering to Goebbels and i do think it is pure propaganda, they must have studied his work's immensely. Only a capitalist/corporate fool, naive schoolboy or Apple employee would say otherwise. :nutkick:

They don't need to stop making profit's but they do need to start introducing equality and fairness.

You can start by refusing to touch anything tainted by Foxconn or other "sweatshops".

this goes hand in hand with the news about the foxconn employees getting pay raises. All the partners were tipped off. you couldnt convince me otherwise. that said I still dont think apple cares about board partner working conditions. they "care" when its on the news and line men are jumping out of windows or getting caught in reflow stations

Apple already is more fair and equitable than no-name competitors. As far as Samsung and so on go.. then I would be astounded if Apple were worse. A single corporation cannot unilaterally change the way in which they manufacture without simply ceasing to compete. Certainly they can be a bit more equitable than the competition, but not significantly so. The only reason Apple is able to do a little more is because they're in a rather unique position where their products are bought with a silly high mark-up because they're fashionable.

If Dell, for example, decided to put their box prices up by 25% because they wanted proper pensions packages, sick leave, holiday pay for their Chinese workers then people would stop buying Dell.
