We all know they're working on the next Fallout. Way back in 2009 Three Dog's voice actor Erik Todd Dellums sparked speculation in a tweet when he said that there'd be more of Three Dog coming.

Last week there emerged a site, http://thesurvivor2299.com/ with a countdown to 11th December. This coming 11th December!

An IP lookup links to Zenimax, Bethesda's parent company. But the site is also registered in Poland, rather than the US, and that alone lets in a lot of doubt. Also strange is the fact that whoever created the teaser site has the date set in European format (dd/mm/yy) rather than U.S. format. But perhaps this was done because the date 11/12/13 looks cool.

Adding to the suspense and speculation, on the 14th November a Fallout 4 trademark has been registered by Bethesda Softworks.

Many are considering both the thesurvivor2299 website and the trademark registration to be phonies, however Bethesda have remained tight-lipped, and when asked, they only said "No Comment".

Yet another argument in favor of this being a legit tease (have you guessed I've got my hopes up high?) is the trade-marked Vault-Tec logo on thesurvivor2299 site. There's no way Bethesda would allow a trademark of theirs on a phony website.

In my opinion, were it a hoax, Bethesda would have declared so and would also have taken steps to have that Vault-Tec logo taken offline and also taken steps to clarify the Fallout 4 registration trademark.

I think the best we can hope for is that the countdown ticks away into an announcement that is released on that date.

I would love to see a FO4 released then but a game of such stature would have more pomp.

Hoax or announcement. And if i'm wrong, I'll be very happy :):):)

I do doubt they will release it on the 11th unless they just want to release a blind game with no hype.

I find it strange that they would wait until less than one month to launch the title but I guess Ubisoft did something similar with Blood Dragon. It's very possible it is Fallout 4.

Remember the radio towers on Fallout 3? That can't be a coincidence.

I may give fallout 3 a replay soon. I liked NV better than fallout 3 just for the single fact you could aim down the sights in NV

Perhaps they are merely toying with us, and December 11th is simply the date they announce the future release of Fallout 4 formally?

Plausible. Better to paper launch a game just before the holidays if you can't launch the physical game then. If that is the case, the release date will probably be March'ish.

They will almost assuredly be using the skyrim engine, AKA, the same engine since oblivion.

I for one can't wait to start modding it. I'm still playing NV and modding it.

I was expecting something more modern rather than a 2011 engine (what bothers me most is the way npc's walk, especially dogs and other animals sometimes they look like they're sliding instead of walking and their feet either get 'absorbed' in the terrain or hover slightly above.

Me too.

I had been pretty stingy when it comes to buying games since I've got loans and other stuff to take care of currently. But for a Fallout IV.... I'd just say:

me too. I'm a big Fallout fan and some friends and I have been talking about Fallout 4 since we finished Fallout NV. This is actually a game we talk about at least once a month..

Fallout 4 is not coming out on the 11th. I don't make that statement without qualifying my response, so here it goes.

1) Gamebryo and its ilk need to die. Elder Scrolls pushed it to the breaking point (and don't we all have fun stories of how it broke in-game?), and Zenimax should have realized that. The investment in producing a completely new engine is substantial, and something that would have taken the last couple of years if done right. Why, it just so happens that two years have passed since Elder Scrolls 5...
2) Zenimax can't keep a secret. They managed to keep Fallout 3 relatively well guarded, but the following games were announced month in advance of a release. There's no reason to think that Fallout 4 was banged out in a couple of years, and wouldn't receive any press until the day of its release.
3) Cryptic statements don't mean a thing, they're supposed to generate interest without giving away any actual facts. This kind of teasing is meant to make people interested. Responses in this thread have confirmed that. If Fallout 4 was coming this year then Zenimax would be accepting pre-orders like mad. Money doesn't lie.

So I'm looking forward to seeing Fallout 4 announced. I'm looking forward to it being in Europe (why else have European dating?). I'm looking forward to it, and the eventual game of the year edition that includes all of the DLC that they'll pump out. As far as rumors, don't care. We have no information, and an audible call for developing rumors without giving anything up. There's no reason to get to the point of frothing madness before we even have any facts.

It seems like it will be the Commonwealth (i.e. Massachusetts). So somehow the main plot would probably revolve around...the Institute.

IMO Bethesda have already shot themselves in the foot by making the first 3 too fumbly in combat and too long in the tooth on skill grinding for many to even want to get into the series, even if the 4th corrects these problems.

I was really hoping I could finally jump into the series comfortably when they announced the changes in FO3, only to find it to be a wasteland of time. Even ME was off putting to me at first, I'm not big on awkward combat and cluttered skill trees.

Once I became familiar with ME though, I ended up playing all 3, and although it took the 3rd to really evolve in those areas, the first two were still playable enough for me without feeling excessively clumsy or grindy. I can't say the same for FO.

I take it you're not a fan of RPGs? Fallout 2's (which is one of the best RPG's to date) combat is clunky and stupid, but that doesn't matter in a good RPG, unless you're after Oblivion with good guns with RPG elements. It feels like you're looking at the wrong kind of game, and I really really really hope (against hope given Bethsofts track record) that this will be a good RPG.

And I don't think it should be called Fallout if it's set in Europe. It would be like making an Elder Scroll game set in Middle Earth, or Warcraft in Amarul.

Also, they are bound to have Super Mutants (because it's Bethsoft) which would just be wrong. :(

According to rumors, the next fallout might actually take place around Boston, which would mean no Europe.
While I would like a fallout-ish game situated in Europe, I agree with you that doing that under the fallout banner is just a bit wrong. Never say never however!
