joisus, whats your goal if you need 5x GTX 460's? can GTS450's not give the same PPD with an agressive shader OC?

The gts450 are good cards but you have to get the right WU to be able to put out the good points. The GTX 460 768mb or 1 gig is an all around good folding card.

That might of made a little difference with it being in a open air "Bench" Case..... but I don't think 20c to 30c difference under load.

Yeah I know yours is under water right now.... but I was wondering more before it wasn't.

Ahh the secret will never be revealed..... oh well I probably just had a bad card..... or possibly another variable I am not aware of in there.

mine always been in an open tech bench (naked case) so I cant compare it to anything else but one that is in the same situation. I can tell you with the blower on it, it used a whole lot more juice than just having a water block on it.

Ohh I am sure you did bro.... I mean I loved the card as far as it being a great gaming card. I thought the architecture on the card was amazing....but when I saw it with a mild overclock hitting 85c with the fan @70% It just made overclocking anything else in my case that much harder.

Which remind me competly off the subject.... I was thinking about buying a tech bench anyway. I am going to PM you real quick I got a question bout them....

Have to agree here! Hell, I can't afford to purchase new LOL. At least not at the moment.

I am running dual ATI HD4850's and drivers have been an issue. Many of the new drivers will not even show CrossfireX in the CCC. Crazy. So far the last driver that will work with this hardware configuration is the 9.8 hotfix drivers.

Well, it may be the drivers or the motherboard that is the issue, but none the less, I have had nothing but issues with the ATI cards. Ran a pair of 8800GTX's. 9800GTX's, and 8800GTS's in SLi and never had one single issue.........Jeez, I am ready to go back to the Nvidia solution :laugh:

Will do. Its not running right now my raid0 setup died. one drive destroyed itself and took the other one with it so im going to buy a Samsung F3 500GB and then this christmas ask for a OCZ Vertex 2 90GB SSD or something

Come on guys. Be real, if you look at the performance per watt, these cards are junk. Look what a 6870 can do. Even the 5970 is better in performance per watt. And you think you are doing good things helping cure cancer with your folding, you are really causing cancer with the amount of power you are wasteing.

Just some food for thought, dont mean to be rude.

your 4870 isn't that light on power and infact the performance per watt is actually a good bit lower than a 470 a 4870 can consume 206w compared to the 232 of a 470, so you do the math :laugh:

The 470's arent that bad on power consumption albeit 20w more than a 5870 which is said to have great power consumption...

I am not saying mine is beter. But my card is 2 generations old. And i dont run it 24/7 full load as most folders do.

We are talking about buying a card today.

Oh and the difference between a gtx470 and a hd5850 in performance per watt is 34%, and a 5870 is 21%. By all means, that is a lot.

Well if you want to talk specifically folding then I think your point is moot as 470 can do around 14k ppd and a 5850/5870 do what 6kppd, now tell me the difference is 34% and 21% for a 5850 and 5870 respectivly cause you are taking gaming performance per watt and bringing that into a folding debate :slap:

By the way, who the hell really cares about performance per watt anyway, I didnt buy my card for its power consumption, I bought it cause I got it cheaper than both a 5850 and a 5870.

You missed the point. All i am saying is these cards consume that much more power than a radeon counterpart. And the thing is, it is not AMDs fault the folding client doesnt work that great with radeon cards. Fact is, they use less energy under full-load than nvidia. And if you take the energy bill into consideration, these cards are just a big FAIL.
When things get better i will buy nvidia again, until than hd6xxx it is.

Well the 480 has to be the worst culprit but I would have to disagree with regards to the 470, yes it does consume more than a 5870 on the whole, but only 20w and the perf between them is fairly close so I dont see it as an issue.

Fail? at 20w more than a 5870 at full load? I think not my friend, not as efficient as the 5** series then yes.

I pretty much game 5 hours a day, and straight during weekends. I pay my utilities and pretty much budget everything. Having a so called 'nuclear reactor' sucking of a card does not demote me to eating beans and walking to my office... fact is I havent seen any difference in my electric bill comming from a 260 and a 280.. still in the +/- average.

This is because I dont game with furmark, and I play with Vsync which pretty much caps my games to 60fps on native res. Vsync is both my power saver and heat controller.
